i just got a 2g eclipse gst a few days ago it has some bolt ons and a 6 bolt swap, but the one thing im not sure about is the dsm link. he told me before i met him it had a dsm link v2 tuner, but when i met him i forgot to ask about it. how do i know if it has one or use it to tune the car myself cause it could use a tune

Remove the ECU from behind the radio (must access it via the footwell panels) and open it up. See if you have a chip in the bottom right corner when the main plugs are pointing up that says DSMlink on it. You can see a picture of the v2 chip in the link below. You also need to make sure you have the black OBDII to serial adapter pictured or you're out of luck.

Did it come with an obd2 cable to plug into your laptop? Maybe in the glove box? If it did you could plug it in under the driver side dash and download dsmlink software off there website and see if it connects. Your best bet is to take the ecu out like the other mentioned. Most people that do a 6 bolt swap run link not only for tuning, it helps out with the random misfire codes you get from running the 1g cam angle sensor unless its a black top CAS which I think gets rid of it.

i asked the guy and he said "he used his friends cable" so looks like im out of luck thanks everyone!

Having a legit copy of v2 (for a 2g) means having the OBDII to serial adapter. If he used a friend's cable, then it doesn't sound like he's in luck. If you don't have that, they can't help you other than selling you a new copy of v3.

I'd still pull the ECU and see what's in it though - at least he could see if the guy was telling the truth in some way.
