Question Galant ECU

a coworker of mine is having issues with his galants ECU, they keep telling him that he needs a ECU from the dealership.. is there any way to flash his ECU back to stock?

if the ecu went bad there's really no easy fix. id go get an ecu from the junkyard and avoid the dealership price mark up.

A reflash will not fix a bad ecu. Mostly likely the caps leaked.

have him head Mitsubishi Eclipse Talon Laser Tracker Sidekick ECU ECM Computer Repair Service and Rebuilt Parts for ECU repair. Junkyard ECU's is risky let alone being scarce to find.

He's telling me that a ecu from the junkyard won't work.. The ecu needs to be peogramed by the dealer to fit his engine and engine number.

I have never heard of engine specific ecu

Who's "they"?

True, not specifically assigned to each motor, but to the electronics and what that specific vehicle needs why of the many ECU's made for one type of vehicle. .. and no "programming by the dealer" - so sounds like a scam just to get a new ECU purchased.

There is a "MD" number on the ECU, and if one out from a yard has the same "MD" number, it should work okey.

But, there are tons of MD numbers assigned to ECU's and that number has to match if doing a straight swapout.

There are something like 7+ generations of Galants and the questing is meaningless without knowing which year Galant your talking about.
