ok i figured out the problem earlier about no boost with my external wastegate. i just had to get the rpms a bit higher. anyways the question i have is why am i only building boost at 4 grand i thought with a td06 turbo i would be building good boost around 3-3500 rpms. i am running a big external waste gate is there something that i should be adjusting or what. i make great boost at 4500 rpm over 15 psi. i just start getting about 4 psi at 4000 rpm. what can i do?

I have td06 mitsu 20g, 38mm ext watstgate, and hit boost around 3200-3500. I dont know what is wrong but can confrem 4500 it to much... Have you done a boost leak test?

no not yet would that cause my turbo to spool that late? that is a bit weird i have not heard of that yet is there something elsee that i can check or do you think that it is for sure the waste gate i believe that it is a 40 or 44 mm wastegate i am not sure though. but i do know that it is not a 38mm. i have a buddy that has a tial external should i try that one and see if it works?

it also came with a gasket for the manifold to wastegate its not on but it also came with metal insert that i put on where the mani meets the wastegate could i just be leaking something from somewhere or what could be going on

There are so many turbine choices for a 20G that it's hard to compare any two 20G turbos and their spool characteristic.

If your 20G has a TD06 or TD06H turbine, full spool will be reached much later than one with a TD05H turbine. Most 06/06H 20G's reach full boost around the 4k mark, possibly later depending on compression ratio and other bolt-on mods.

how do i determine if it is a td06 or td06h it has t3 housing if that helps but as far as determining if it and 06 or 06 h i am not sure. how can i tell if the external wastegate is bad.

so is this normal or should i be concerned. it has a little bit of power in the beginning but once it hits 4500 rpm it really plants and goes. so would this be a problem or is ther anything else that i can do to try and get my boost to come earlier in the 3-3500 rpm range

i know that i have exhaust leaks above the turbo on the mani. i have an adapter for the t3 turbine housing and possibly on the down pipe could this be causing me to experiance the big psi later on in th rpm range hince 4000-4500 rpm range

Huh? You just found one of your problems right there. If only a majority of your exhaust gases are hitting the turbo, and some of it is leaving through a crack, then how do you expect it to spool normally?

And did you do a boost leak test?

No Not Yet I Dont Have A Boost Leak Tester Yet I Have To Find One Or Buy The Parts To Make One. I Have Also Tightened All The Bolts Down That Connect To The Turbo I Have A Adapter Flange In It Right Now And You Know For The T3 To Mitsu Adapter And I Think That It May Be Warped But I Am Going To Take It Off Ad See If It Might Be Warped Or Not

^^^Fix your capital letter issue.

A tdo6 and td06h turbine wheel in the same turbine housign with the 20g compressor wheel spools so close to the same that FP just stopped using the td06 turbine wheel altogether for a while.

I expect your spool speed to increase after fixing your preturbo exhaust leak. But you'll still only see abotu 20psi at about 3900rpms. . .

yeah figured out that i dont have any preturbo leaks it was just coming from the down pipe. i believe that my waste gate is just jacked up. is there a way that i can tell if it is or not like disconnecting the hose that runs to the external side port. i guess the knock off wastegate is hurting my performance

Well, my knock off is doing fantastic! I'm not sure what would be wrong. You'll have to just get in there and find out. . . The ebay gates come with only a 5-7psi spring. They really need more/second springs. . .

well do you guys recommend me trying out my buddies tial 38mm waste gate and see if that changes anything? i might even try taking the hose off the side port to see if the wastegate works properly
