Question about Throttle Plate

Buddy and I just replaced throttle body shaft seals for the first time on his 92 TSi. Well putting it back together he put the throttle plate in backwards(screws are on the intake side/would be upside down since I marked it when I disassembled it). We did this while replacing multiple parts and are having idle issues. What I'm wondering is will that make a difference/affect idle or running at all? Need to know this ASAP as he has to drive the car to school at 5(currently 3:10) and we need to get this thing running properly before then. Thanks in advance.

The plate must be installed in the correct position. The edges of it are angled. It's subtle but it's there if you look closely. Installing it backwards may cause the plate to stick or affect idle because the plate is not able to close properly.

I have done this and it took nearly 2 weeks to figure out exactly what I had done wrong. My idle was crazy and just partial throttle was wild as well and jumpy.

Also its easy to get it flipped as it will screw on both ways but just make sure to align it and test it a few times before re-installing.

The edges of the throttle plate also cover/uncover idle air ports.
