Hi all, I have a question, first off, I did a engine and trans swap from a 90 gst to a 94 nt car, so when I did this I finally got engine running right from the change of sensors and wires on the ecu and etc...Anyways, I recently did some research on trans swap and I learned that I have to change brackets. If I have the turbo trans already I don't have to change the brackets on the trans but I do have to change the brackets inside the car do I? Now to my main question, I took my trans out because their was so much play on the Clutch fork and comes to find out when I took the trans down my pressure plate "fingers" or "fins" are flat and that's why I'm assuming there is so much play because the tob has nothing to push against, is it normal for the pressure plate to have flat fingers and not bulging out like normal? Please help. THANKS A MILL.

Not sure how much play is normal but I recently just did my clutch and I noticed a lot of play but it didn't seem like it would reduce performance.

UGHHHHHHHH XXNocturnalXX please help man anybody, I'm gonna lose it if I can't get the fuggin car fixed and it's reallllly pissin me off. My stupid car won't go into gear after engine swap:banghead:

Put the car into gear without it running. Then start the car, obviously with the clutch pedal in tell us what happens when you do this.

The car's wheels spin, I do have it on jack stands btw, i have it in neutral and the the tires still spin. Put It just won't go into gear and grinds if I try to force it obviously I've bled the clutch numerous times, took the trans down inspected clutch pressure plate and flywheel and they seem ok, this car has been in the shop for about seven months and I'm getting fed up....

Pull the boot back on the clutch master cylinder (under the dash). If it's wet under there, it's leaking and time to replace. What pressure plate, clutch disc, and flywheel combo did you use?

It doesn't seem to be leaking but does have like rust on the rod closer to the firewall side of the rod. I used the stock clutch, plate, and flywheel.Btw, I did use a trans out of a 90 and my car is a 94.

this may be a dumb question to ask, but you do have pressure in your pedal right? you've checked the slave cylinder as well, (pull the boot back just like the master cylinder and see if any fluid is in the boot, if so replace). Only other thing i could think of would be your clutch is out of adjustment and you might need to adjust the rod in the master cylinder under the dash.. :hmm:

I just wen through this on my buddy's 91 gst we dropped the transmission 3 times that night and finally figured out that the fork was slightly bent so we installed a couple washers behind the pivot ball and that seemed to remedy the problem...may not be the "right way" to fix it but it did get his car back on the road and going strong for almost 2 months now...:hellyeah:

that was going to be my next suggestion.. :thumb:

Their is a little bit of pressure, not like normal though, a little to soft, and I did adjust the rod but still not going into gear, not even by forcing it.

This will be the second time I drop the trans but it's a real pita, but I don't think it has to do with my trans though. It's just not going into any gear while my car is on.

Did you swap the shifter arm on the trans? The one that actually unbolts? If you don't, you won't be able to get the car into 5th or Reverse.

No I haven't, awesome, I will look into that tomorrow but it looks like it's pressed on to the other arm somehow.

did you put a new fulcrum ball and fork? my buddys gst had same problem, it wouldnt go into any gear unless car was off. we installed new fork and ball and it solved the problem

OK, ill try that, but where do I get them from?

There are 2 12mm bolts that hold the arm in place. Remove the bolts and the arm slides right out.

Sounds easy enough I will try that when I get off work.?

The one that makes a difference is on the main shaft and has a pressed pin holding it in.

OK now I'm confused....FACK!!!!!

Hey NOSLO2PTO, I noticed you were in the shifter linkage and trans thread, and that whole thread is confusing LOL, maybe that's my problem, the 90 to 91+ trans swap not letting me shift while car is on, so if you mind me asking you personally, what all do I change when I swap a 90 trans to a 91+ car? I have an idea but just want to make sure....And I thank you and everyone for there help, hopefully this will make my 9 month of project start running again.:hellyeah:

Have you tried putting it in gear manually at the trans? have a friend push the clutch while you try to put it in gear at the trans (make sure you have the ebrake on or front on jstands as you said or you might get ran over ROFL). That will tell if you if its the cables not lets you shift.

Make sure the clutch is bled properly by sticking a hose from the bleeder into a glass jar filled with brake fluid and bleeding it until you see no more bubbles coming out, the clutch is a pain to bleed completely sometimes.

So if you figure out that its your cables not letting you shift, you can try bending/twisting the cable bracket on the transmission or using washers to space it out to get the cables in the right spot. Basically hacking away until you get the cables in the right spot.

If you need the cables to be longer you can try"doubling" up on those little gold adjustment nuts on the shifter base in the car (requires a trip to the junkyard to get more of the adj nuts thought) I can take a pic of how i did this if you need one, i know its a bit confusing.

Yeah take some pics if you don't mind Bro, any help will be greatly appreciated

All you need to swap out when putting a 90 into a 91-94 car is the bracket that holds the cables to the trans (2 12mm bolts) as well as the shifter arm that is held on by 2 12mm bolts. That's IT! It's a built in short shifting setup.

Do this. Turn car off, push clutch in, start car. Does the car jump forward when you bump the starter?
