Question about removing the shift linkage cable from the shifter base.

So i finally got around to checking out my shifter and shift linkage cable. After removing the center console, I noticed my linkage cable out of the rubber boot and basicly all twisted up. Under the hood, i was missing all kinds of things...

pins,screws etc.

I ordered all new bushings from the base to the transmission. So here's my question. I know there are two bolts holding the shift linkage to the firewall under the radio. How do you remove the actual linkage from the shifter base? I'll take a picture if needed but im guessing since the car is a 91 it hasn't been touched, moved or replaced in over 19 years.

There are 2 small cotter pins on each cable's ends. There are 4 total retaining plates as well that hold the cables to the shifter base and the bracket on the trans. I use a flat head screw driver and put it under the lip to pry it up for the 2 on the shifter base. the ones uner the hood I use a pair of pliars and grip the lip and wiggle it off the bracket. There are 2 12mm bolts holding the gromet the cables go threw to the fire wall (THESE RUST AND BREAK OFF SO TAKE IT EASY) and there are 2 12mm bolts holding the bracket on the trans.

When you re-install the new bushings and the cables make sure you use some anti-seize or grease on them or later on down the road the shifter will be very very hard to move.
