Question about porting

I have a 16g turbo installed on my car and I bought a ported 02 housing and a 2g manifold that I am going to port. My ported o2 housing matches my 16g perfect but when I port my manifold it won't so I was thinking about porting the exhaust side of my turbo to match. Can I port the exhaust side of the turbo while it's still installed in the vehicle if I put paper towels in the hole to avoid getting metal shaving on the turbine?

If you are going to port. i would suggest taking the housing off of the turbo. You can do it and still leave the turbo in the car I did it this way before. All I did on the exhaust portion was polish it till it was like glass and called it good.

I installed the o2 housing already and that was a real pain to get all the bolts tight. But the manifold is still off, so I was just trying to avoid taking the housing off to port it. Would it be safe to port it when it' s still in the car or not?

Its always Much easier to Bolt everything up then put it in. I always have my full turbo setup bolted up and go in that way. Its also how I take them out. Otherwise yes the o2 housing sucks.

Thanks for the tip but that really doesn't answer my question. Can I safely port the exhaust side of my turbo without removing it?

You probably could, but i wouldn't recommend it. Just pull it off. In the time that it took to write this and wait for reply's you could of had it off and ported already.

I would not port or polish the exhaust side (or any side) without taking the turbo cartridge off from both sides in order to prevent metal shaving and dust from getting in between the turbine blades and the shaft seals.

Will it really make a difference if I don't port the exhaust side of the 16G turbo if the exhaust manifold and o2 housing is ported and I have a 3" downpipe?
