ok so i took off the spark plug cover and found a whole bunch of oil wiped it down and found a piece what felt like putty and took it off to discover a crack and was wondering if 1. if i can just weld the crack and be fine and 2 if that could be the cause of high NOx emission readings and last if that could be the issue to the boost problem i have thats stated here... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/396261-sputering-question.html#post152508662

You can weld the VC where the crack is at. Others have used JB Weld to fix those cracks. Just allows oil and more ventilation to escape from the block LOL.

and when put on what does jb weld look like ### there was something covering the crack but what ever it was didnt work ### there was oil every where and its craked from the top left corner to right about the end of the spark plug whole also my car seems to gain heat fast and i was wondering if that could be why and also from what i was told the guy i just got the car from said he out a 16g evo turbo and theres no supporting mods to that

Why is punctuation a lost art?

JB weld is sandable and paintable. You can make it look as good as the amount of effort you put into it. If you just put it in/on the crack it will look, well....JB welded.

It sounds like you have more problems than just a cracked valve cover. It would be wise to see what's really going on with the car if you are in fact running a 16g without any fuel support. You will be fixing more than a valve cover crack if your running higher boost.

on the stock gauge its only hits 7psi it wont go past that if you look here theres a picture at the bottom of the trubo http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/396261-sputering-question.html#post152508662

and he threw in 780cc injectors to so ima throw those on when i get the chance

wow 780's for a 16g? i think you need to get a tuning program before you go throw bing injectors into your car before you do some major damage

Dont do that. You will just be throwing away fuel if your not tuning the car, among other bad things. If you dont have a boost controller you are probably running at wastegate pressure at the most. You dont need 780cc injectors for that. You would be running extremely rich.

The factory boost gauge, even when you think its working right is useless. You should get an aftermarket gauge if your modding the car at all, which it already is.

Honestly with the 16g turbo you are already ahead of yourself...that should be one of the Last things bolted on the car. The first things you need minimum are a boost gauge and at least a logger...preferably something to tune with so you know whats going on. And you need an understanding of what happens when you change/add things to the car...and what needs to be done in what order to correct it. ;)

Actually, going back to your original post, the maintenance hasnt been done. Put that on the top of your list.

too much? i didnt buy them he threw them in with the car what injector size should i get i dont really want to mess the car up i just got it yesterday ha ha i want to do this right and he also gave me a fuel pump not sure what how much tho what else do i need im trying to bring this talon to life i know for a fact it hasnt been registerd since 2002

i know but i didnt put the turbo in i just bought it like that and now im trying to get it right i asked him if he had the original and he said no i was just going to throw the original in untill i got everything i needed

I'm not saying its your fault. The previous owner didnt set it up right for that 16g to be used efficiently thats all. Just trying to get you on the right path to fix it and not break anything. You will figure it out, just keep researching and reading. Check out the upgrade paths. :hellyeah:

Above all do your maintenance and such first. Then prepare the car for the turbo and higher boost with the right support. You cant do it in the wrong order.

It has to be done in a smart and right order. You dont give it to the girl, and then put the condom on later do ya? :thumb:

right now im just trying to prevent more damage to the car so if i dont boost high ill be good? and as far as maintenance there new coolant and oil and all the belts look new

if you take a look at the tread i linked to in the origanal post when the stock gauge hits 7 the car sputters kinda like and you dont hit 1st gear correctly is the best way to exlpain it

Have you done a boost leak test?

no i have not done a test. should i? and would that put the turbo under stress?

Yes you should. It wont really put the turbo under stress, it just makes it pointless to have one. If you have a boost leak, your measured air (that gets measured at the MAS on the intake) is not the correct ratio anymore. you dont get the proper air/fuel mix the computer is expecting...and your car runs like poo.

Thats first on your list.

well from what the guy told me its not getting enough fuel for the turbo thats why its doing what its doing... and i tried to search on how to do a boost leak and nothing but peoples results came up

What RPM are you at when it cuts out?

Honestly you really need to know what boost pressure you are at. A good accurate reading. You need a boost gauge, and you need to make sure you don't have any boost leaks. I dont think you would hit fuel cut at 7psi as you say you are running even with a 16g.

If you can get it up to 5000rpms and it falls flat on its face that's one thing...then you can start screaming fuel cut. But if you arent even building boost, its quite the opposite of fuel cut. It's lack of air. Based on the pictures I have seen of the condition of the car under the hood, im sure you have some boost leaks.

Even my car, which was pretty clean even when I got it, had boost leaks.

im sure it might have some and i know im deff not at 7psi thats just what the stock gauge say and i know there not right and im not saying fuel cut at least i dont think i am but ill take the car for a run right now and see rpm its hitting at

so when im in first it cut out at a little over 4 and 2nd it cut out at 5 so is it still possibly have vacume leak or is it fuel cut
