I have a couple of rust spots on my driver's side 1/4 panel...so I took it into a very reputable shop for an estimate yesterday.

He calls me this morning with the news that he can't find a panel anywhere. :( Man, that's disappointing. Still, they quoated around $2000 to repair the spots and repaint my rear bumper, which has peeling paint.

I'm still undecided what to do. The tech said the repair could start bubling within a week, or might last 5 years. They do very nice work (they r/r my front bumper last fall) so I have faith in their ability...but still...that's a chunk of change to drop for something that might only last weeks...

Just go to a wrecking yard and find a quarter panel. Cut it out and have the shop weld in the panel spots that are needed. That or have them cut out the old stuff and weld in some new sheet metal. I am doing the first option with my 95.

2k for a 1/4 pannel fix and bumper re-paint.... WTF

for 2k i would be looking for and entire car paint job.

i agree with 95. just got to a pull-a-part and find a new one or fix it yourself and get it sprayed somewhere...

Yeah, I hear you on that...I had a 944 some years back, had a complete repaint done for $1800..wasn't base/clear though, just acrylic enamel. That car didn't have a dent or any rust though.

Incidentally, this quote was the lowest I found. One place quoted $4800 with a new panel! Needless to say, they didn't get a call back.

If I had the room I'd buy a parts donor car. Just have no place to put it though... :(
