quaife and driveshaft shop axle doesn't fit

1992 eagle talon tsi, Front wheel drive

I ordered a quaife lsd and after it was installed the axle was too small to fit. I assumed maybe I had the old smaller axle. I then went and ordered a new axle from the driveshaft shop and it is also too small for the differential.

90-92.5 FWD was a small splined axle like a AWD. 92.5-94 was larger on the FWD cars.

I know there are two axles. I am wondering why the driveshaft shop would be selling a 90-92.5 style axle and claim it is a 1990-1994 axle. It seems odd especially considering this is a performance axle. Something about it doesn't add up which is why I am wondering if anyone has purchased these parts before and can verify that they fit.

Update:

So it turns out that this differential has 27 teeth. Quaife only makes one differential for 92 to 99 fwd dsms. 27 teeth is what a 2g uses, so the 1g axles are not going to fit.

I spoke with the Drive Shaft Shop and they said what I need is "1st gen axles with the 2nd gen male inner that has 27 spline"

Has anyone else gone through this when they put a quaife into a 1g dsm?

What you were told would probably work. So would using '93-'94 FWD axles. Or getting the AWD Quaife unit and keeping the axles you have.

who? you and me? no, this is the first time ive inquired about this. ived looked into axles tho. this is all a bit confusing. i thought i read the lower years pre 92.5 were small, then it went big til 2g when the shrunk back down, but seems like youre saying for turbo only, which i didnt catch before.

anyway, since i dont even have axles yet to replace my current ones needing replacement, i should just be fine to get the (turbo? 2g?) bigger ones? thanks

oh okay, i gotcha now. that was us, different but related. its slowly coming together. so i should be fine and as a matter of fact i get to upgrade my axles right?

Get '93-'94 FWD, 5-speed, turbo axles and you may just get it right. These will have the correct spline count at the diff and will be correct lengths for the car.

can you believe autozone gave me the wrong one too? The long passenger side shaft, well both, are supposed to have 27 teeth, for this quaife anyway, but they gave me the skinny one for the long shaft. The short one fits tho. So anyone following this have the vendor double check!
