q45 throttle body questions

I did some brief searching here and want to know something pretty straight forward and haven't been lucky even when I checked the merged section.

I want to know if I can get the throttle body to fit the intake manifold without ANY modifications.

I can handle the electronics...but I need to know if anything else is required to make it fit the intake manifold.

Apparently it isn't a bolt in. I just want to keep it simple...thanks!

You will need an adapter plate. It will not bolt up. You will also need to bore the intake manifold.

Why even think about a Q45 and a stock intake manifold? Guys have made well over 600whp on the throttle body. If you want a 3.5" throttle body, you better be making north of 750whp, and a stock intake manifold shouldn't even be in the equation.

Cost, if it bolted on to the intake manifold without issue then it would be cheaper and less hassle free than having to build the stock TB.

Yeah, don't even bother getting a tb as large as the Q45 if you have the stock manifold. The hydraulic area of the stock manifold will negate much of the gain associated with the huge tb.

Here, take a look at this... I recently did this calculation to see how streetable a q45 would be vs. stock tb. The result shows that at low throttle angles, the Q45 behaves similar to stock hydraulic diameter, but trends by an exponental increase over stock as the throttle angle approaches WOT. To fully utilize a q45, you're going to need a manifold that has a hydraulic area at least 2.29 times larger than stock manifold.

which is why you should put it on a JMF Drag manifold, works beautifully )

(except its so damn big and sits so low on that SMIM that you need to eliminate heater core hoses and all kinds of other sh*t)

I'm sure if you were to find a way to make a 3" pipe effectively fit inside a 2" hole, the masses will deem you a genius.

Those who have posted above are correct- there's no way you could benefit from a throttle body that large on a stock intake manifold.

rebuilding the tb is easy imo, it took about an hour from getting it off the car to back on. machV had the gastkets and home depo had the orings. I will look for the vfaq if your interested.

i have a question. ive also been looking at different throttle bodies though im making my own intake but not sure what type of flange i want to go with the q45 are cheap enough but they are huge. what about the throttle position sensor voltage and ratio is this something that is close enough? or do you really need something like dsmlink to correct it? also another question i have is that i have seen poeple using the non turbo style tb. i have recently junked a 92 galant non turbo and the throttle body is larger than my 1g turbo (which needs rebuilt) and was wondering what you have to do to make it ok for turbo (seals o rings diff bearings what) thanks for your time. if i knew how to post pics i would post one of my intake in progress thanks again.
