first off, I am posting in this forum because this is where I found part of my answer...but please move if it's in the wrong place.


I have a 2g which means I have 4 wires going to the TPS. the q45 tps has one pig tail w/ 3 wires and a short harnes w/ 3 wires. So far what I've been able to find is the the short harness is for the actual TPS and the pigtail is for the "idle validation circuit". I'm not sure what that means but I found it on some supra forums. I know that the difference between the 1g and 2g tps is that the the 4th wire (which ells the ecu if the throttle is closed) is seperate on a 1g. Could this be the same thing as "idle validation"?

So far this is the info I have come across as far as wired and what they are for:

q45 tps harness (not the pigtail):
-Red is the 5 volt input wire
-White is the TPS signal wire
-Black is the sensor return wire

2g tps harness:
1 - Green/Yellow (+5v Sensor Power)
2 - Brown/Red (TPS output voltage)
3 - Yellow/Red (IPS switch)
4 - Black (Ground)

Ok so I'm still a little confused on what wires to connect so if anyone has experience or more info t add I would appreciate it.
 
No, mine is like that too. The magnus manifold flange i think is made incorrectly. The position of the TB inlet is misplaced and the size of the flange is too large. I am going to have JMf make a spacer for me since i can't get it to line up.

I am glad that I am not the only one that has seen this problem. Looking at the top view picture above, I have my TB oriented in the same fashion when mating it up to my Intake. Looking down on the TB with the inlet towards me I have the throttle linkage to the left and TPS on the right with the vacuum lines visible as in the picture. The only way for the TB to mount up with out interefence would be to flip it upside down from how I described but that wouldnt work with the linkage reversed. I am at work but when I get off I will try to post a picture to better demonstrate what I am talking about.
 
Here is a side by side picture with just a slight gap between the TB and Intake manifold. You can see the way the TPS sticks out beyond the flat surface of the throttle body. I dont want to grind clearance into the face of the manifold, maybe there is some sort of spacer I can make work for me. Any ideas are welcome!

For some reason I remember the flange being different now that you show it. I don't have one or have a picture so I guess it is conjecture. But I would say have a spacer make or a bracket welded on somehow if you don't want to worry about additional places to seal.
 
I have read through all of the posts on here and i cannot find the answers to my question. Which pigtail do you use? Also what wires do you wire together mine are different then both pigtails.
 
Red is the 5 volt input wire
White is the TPS signal wire
Black is the Ground wire

The white wire will be in the center, red wire should be on the left and black wire should be on the right.

are you talking about the solid color wires or the green with that color striping on it? cause they both have that color scheme
 
The stock wiring is:

Green/Yellow = 5v
Brown/Red = TPS output
Black = ground
Yellow/Red = idle switch


Q45 TPS ------------------ Stock TPS
Red = 5v------------------ Green/Yellow
Black = Ground----------- Black
White = TPS output------- Brown/Red

Leave the Yellow/Red OEM TPS connected to nothing extra.

thats for a 2g not a 1g.

i have

DSM============Q45
green/red=========red
green/white========white
green/black========black

do i just color match?
i checked the haynes manual but there isnt a diagram on there.
 
Sorry, here a diagram. Doesn't say what the colors are, but you can go by the map.

ty for the diagram i just looked at both pigtails are they are the same colors, which do you use the one in the gray sheathing that is wired into the body or the dsm style pigtail.
 
I have finally resolved the mounting issue I was having trying to mate up the TB to the Magnus flanged intake manifold. It just took some clearancing work with a Dremel and a couple hours of sweat equity. The flange is thick enough to safely carve out the room that the TPS sensor requires to allow for flush mount to the intake manifold with the ability to rotate and adjust the throttle position sensor freely.

What size q45 is recommended for a gt3076r, or gt3586r turbo set up??

i keep seeing different sizes 75mm,80mm,90mm unsure on which one to go with

this will be installed on my jmf smim with a q45 flange.. any input would be great guys thanks
All the Q45 throttle bodies that I have found are 80mm ID and 90mm OD. You should be good to go.

You might see people use the ID/OD or some people just guess on the size but as he said there is only one size Q45. It is a OEM unit not aftermarket like the Acufabs or any other tb like that. If your not running a turbo bigger than a 50 trim this mod might actually hurt you more than help you though. It is a big tb and it will slow down the velocity of your intake flow but it will alow you to flow more as long as you can take advantage of the more volume.

now there are so many different size turbo's on the market 50 trims, gt30, gt35, 6262,hx35 i cant keep up with what sizes are equivalent to which.. but my question is if i get a oem 80mm q45 TB to use on my jmf race smim, will this hurt the performance flow on a gt3076? and be ok on flow for a gt3586?

or will both those turbo's be obsolete?? for that flow setup?
i think the gt35 will be ok, unsure about the gt30 tho

reason i ask is because these are my turbos of choice from FP

Yup, exactly what Slippi84 said. Going from stock throttle body which is 52mm to an 80mm is about 1.1". It's a really large jump and I think it's too big for a GT3076R. Plus if you can't find someone that's highly skilled in tuning you got to get use to throttling it on startups for a couple of minutes or it'll surge or die until the engine gets warm.

It all depends on how many far you want to take it and what your goals are. There's a huge difference between a GT3076R and the GT3586R.

my gsx isnt my dd its my project car. i just want the best performance, flow out of all my parts
but i still want to take it on the street.. im looking for about 550 to low 600hp goals with my setup..

and it sounds like i need to go with a bigger turbo like a 35r if i go with the q45 TB...

what are some of the turbos you guys are using with your q45 TB setup???

I run it on my semi-daily 2G. I've tried it with the bolton HX40 and soon to be the T3 hotside.

DSMLink makes running the throttle body pretty dang easy.
 
k i was reading this and saw a few 420a's askin about the q45, so ill throw in why not use the throttle body of a jeep 4.0 straight six, i have one now and if i remember right it was a 55mm and easily bored to a 60mm, and does not require anything other than using your old sensor for plug and play, swapping the head of the iac of a jeep iac onto the 420a's, slotting 2 of the mounting holes and maybe adding an inch or two of wire into the iac wiring. Other than that the only thing that was time consuming was slotting the 420a butterfly bar for the jeeps throttle plate, and finding a suitable return spring.

It has an integral FIAV and when properly adjusted the car will idle down to the oem idle speed of 750 without any problems.
