I just bought an AWD shell for 1990 Eagle Talon. I was wondering if anyone has done the JDM engine swap and could give me the website where they bought their Engine and transmission. I would also like to know what is needed other than the engine and transmission to complete this swap if possible. :talon:

They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolt to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission 2G Eclipse style. Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor.

I did the same thing you did. I bought a shell as a project and bought a JDM motor w/tranny and X-fer case for 1550 shipped to my door. Osaka motors....http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/ great guy to deal with :thumb: . After I bought the motor though, I built the motor, so I guess I never would've known if the motor was bad or not. But again, for that price you can't beat it, and the swap was very simple. Still runs to this day 2500 and counting. :)

Why waste all that $ on a "JDM" engine if you are just going to rebuild it. Find a $500 6-bolt and rock that if you plan on totally rebuilding an engine.

Well I needed alot more stuff than just the motor and the jdm came with everything. I figured why waste time finding a good tranny, transfer case, block and head, for about the same price. When I could just get a fully complete motor w/ everything including manifolds, turbo etc..for that price within a week. And I only built the bottom end of the motor, not the head, I did not go all out. But for 1550 shipped to my door I think is a hell of a deal.

He said a JDM not EVO motor. You are correct about the "EVO" motor though. I have a JDM eng/trans/x-ref case in mine. Have been running it for 18 months now. It is a good alternative if you don't have time/experience to rebuild your own. I got mine from Noyan Usa in Manassas VA. Sorry don't have a link or phone number for them. But you can get it from information. If you are close you can drive there and they will let you pick your motor.

I bought my Talon with a JDM 4G63T in it, seems to run good, recently redid the water pump. Thing was that we weren't sure when the belts and stuff were done, at least like this you know when and how everything was done.

I was looking into replacing it with another engine but at this point it doesn't pay for me. Good luck

is there any wiring changes or anything to put the 91+ engine in the 90?

The only differance is the CAS. The 90's have a totally different design. It has a long harness that comes out of it and it plugs into the harness on a different location. The 91+ the harness plugs difectly into the CAS.

what u mean by cas. i bought a 90 eclipse with none of the top end of the engine. i have the head and intake manifold. should i rebuild with parts or buy a jdm. also no throttle body, sensors, injectors or fuel rail?

Cam Angle Sensor. 90's do not have a crank sensor. If you do not have anything above the block. i.e head, sensors, intake, t-body. It might be cost effective to get a JDM motor rather than trying to buy all the missing parts.

the harness will be cut but will have all the connectors and sensor on it. you can just use your harness and hook it to the new motor

thanks anything on the wiring or engine i would have to change besides cas. i heard somesthing was different on the ignition.

the ignitor for the coil is different on the 91+. Just look at all the connectors when you get the JDM motor. The last 2 I swaped into 90's were a diffect bolt in. I didn't have to change anything.

Good Luck. It is not too hard.

Theyre all over ebay dude, my 6bolt quit in my 91 so I picked up a cyclone jdm with 16g, tranny, xfer case, ecu, everything you need for 1700 shipped. bolted up perfectly only thing is the damn intake runners on the cyclone.
