Also a small detail to check is the condition of the reverse light switch as well the thickness of the aluminum crush washer for it, if it is even installed.
If the washer is missing it will cause the reverse switch to flat spot and jam on the 5/R shift rail detent and will be hard shifting or jammed. The reverse switch should have a 1mm thick aluminum crush washer. Inspect the switch for damage. All you need is a 24mm deep socket and remove the electrical plug.
