Emmaus,
hey guys, heres what i got. 97 gsx with a fresh built motor( im talkin like 5 miles). the problem im havin is at idle if i push in the clutch the rpms drop dramatically almost stallin. and while driving when i go to shift and push in the clutch the car completely dies. im stumped on this shit and would appreciate any suggestions or help form anyone. thaks in advance.

ha my car did this for the longest time... i had to jump it to get it started back up and it would barely hold its idle.. i was so stumped that i took it to a shop and they couldnt find a damn thing... what they did find was lose battery terminal connections.. so they tightened those and its been perfect from that day on...

dont ask

but yea it was the same prob, i would be going like 60 then put in the clutch to stop at a stop sign while coasting and it would just stall... so i would get out and turn the key to the on position then wiggle the battery and cables and the power would turn on and off, so it was an obvious connection somewhere...

I had the same problem with my 1st gen. When driving the car it was fine but as soon as I stopped the car would die.So I had to keep jumping out and wiggle the positive battery cable then it was good

hey guys, thanks for the quick replies. im not sure if that is whats the problem because when im driving and the car stalls i can start it right back up no problem. i wanted to add this when i put the post but i forgot. the car is a 97 and i used a block and tranny out of a 95 talon awd, not sure if this will help at all.

Mine did that after my rebuild.

I had messed up installing the thrust bearing. Needless to say I had to take the whole thng apart. Turns out the thrust bearing got chewed up and ruined the crank with it.

Not that that is your problem, but that is what happened to me with the same first problems.

mine did that too, could be either of these
-ECU
-TPS

however, the bad ECU gave the following codes
-o2 sensor
-TPS
-MAS

i would see if its giving any codes first, then try adjusting your tps

well im gonna check the tps but the weird thing is i never had any of these problems before it was taken apart. i used the same head i had on before. i installed clevite main and rod bearings and no sign of crankwalk when installed. would crankwalk cause a problem like this anyway. no problems when turning and no gear grinding at all.

Why would a motor with 5 miles on it be walking, unless it was just flat out assembled wrong or poorly?

thats exactly why.... it happened to me twice.(ouch) all i have to say is #### cw...

well i can guarantee the motor is installed properly cuz this is about the 10th motor i've built up not just including dsm's. so im in no way new to this. anyways i just cant figure out this shit.

it is a second gen. but what im saying is that prior to install i checked all necessary areas for crankwalk and all was good. reinstalled with clevite main and rod bearings.

I'd check your clutch alignment. My car had similar symptoms, and turns out the clutch was running on the flywheel improperly.
Good luck

exactly what symptoms were u having. just curious. and how off was the alignment. czu we used and alignment tool and double checked it. the only other thing i can think of is that i used a flywheel off of the 97 and put it on the 95 block and tranny

Mine did that when I tested what venting the bov would do on my car. I took off the tube and the car would only kill on me during shifts. I put the tube back on the bov after that test run and it ran normal again. Just my 2 cents goodluck. :dsm:

Probably, although each car I've seen vent has acted different. Did you fix your problem yet? If so what was it?

i still have not fixed it. last night we did all the troubleshooting shit, checked all the sensors, everything is good. the only thing that i found was a leak at the TB gasket so im gonna change that and then try again. does anyone know if a leak at the TB gasket would cause anything this bad. i've had small leaks like this before and never any of these symptoms. thanks
