Pic 3 , 9 and 3 ..I know you can't see them both but does that look close or turn it a bit more? http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p68/flipper2007/Timing/IMG_1956.jpg here is the bottom http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p68/flipper2007/Timing/IMG_1955.jpg

dowel pins on cam gears straight up

the mark on the crank gear is a notch on the plate the side of your t belt rests on

turn it till the dowel pins are straight up then take another pic of crank gear i cant see the timing mark where it is right now

The dowel pins on the cam gears should be at 12 o'clock when the marks line up in the center. (figure 2) The marks on the outer part of the gears should line up with the top surface of the head.

There is a trigger plate behind the crank gear that should line up with a notch on the front case. There is also a mark on the oil pump sprocket that lines up with a mark on the front case. (figure 11, 11b & 12)

According to the vfaq, the mark for the 7 bolt crank gear is on the other side of the front case near the front of the motor. (figure 12) I've only dealt with 6 bolts, and I don't have balance shafts...

Timing Belt VFAQ (Timing Belt TSB - ENHANCED)

Thanks guys i will , do that tomorrow and get it set straight ..Making a tensioner tool tomorrow also ...

Why do you need to do anything with the spark plug holes? It isn't a necessary step in either taking the belt off or putting it back on. I don't understand what you're trying to do. Set the marks up before you take the belt off then change the belt using any of the hundreds of suggestions given here. Bottom line is once the belt is one, marks have to be right, tensioner has to be right.

If you put a long handle screwdriver into the plug hole you can watch it ride up and down and find TDC. You can actually watch how long it stays still at TDC as you turn the crank before it starts to move back down. That what I did when I degreed my cams.

Doing a head gasket :thumb:

I still don't see the point of being that exact. All you need is the mark on the crank sprocket plate. The only time you might need to know TDC precisely is if you were trying to degree some cams or in the case of a domestic you were trying to install a distributor or set initial timing. Even then the process isn't very precise without some sort of jig.
