pulling tans off engine

1991 TSI AWD

Have engine + trans + tcase all out of car. Going to separate trans n tcase from engine to put on a stand but it will not separate completely. We can get it so separate a little bit past the dowel pins but that is it. What is the trick to get it separated completely? Do I have to remove t-case before separating trans from engine? Just pry and tug harder or what?

Ever notice the trans is on one side of the flywhel and the tcase is on the other? Yes you must remove tcase.
