I'm finally getting around to changing my timing belt this week and a buddy of mine wants to sell me his Unorthodoxed Racing Ultra SS (crank and all accessories) pulley kit (I'll have to remove from the car he is parting out). I'm wondering if these aftermarket pulleys will have any negative effect on timing or any other electrical components. I was thinking of just purchasing the Unorthodoxed crank pulley, since I don't really want to underdrive any of the accessories and I'll save a lot of weight. I noticed also that my headlights are dimming when I hit the brake at a stop...I just sold my HIDs (stupid move) and they never had this issue...could my stock crank pulley have anything to do with that? The battery is 2 yrs. old, the belts are old (160K)...I hope it's not the alternator.

I can't comment on the pullies since I've never had experience with them.

As to the light dimming.
Make sure your positive terminal on your battery is covered. Make sure your grounds are good.
Your alternator might be on it's last leg.

It won't show you much gain, from what I've heard. Do it if you want. And it sounds like your voltage regulator or alternator is going.

Could it be because I have a piece of crap ProStart battery? I did have the battery checked at a Kragen and they said it's ok (about a month ago) but it's about 2 years old. I never had my battery terminals covered. The car has just had some problems starting. On top of that, the belts are old/cracking. Whats the voltage regulator?

It's on the alternator. It bolts on it and has 2 fingers that rub on the inside of it. If the fingers are worn get a new one before paying 100 for a new alternator.

Where can I get an alternator for only $100???
Sorry, I used to work at a parts store and got everything a bit cheaper then most....

I agree. I saw this happen a couple weeks ago. There was enough white powder under my positive battery clamp to prevent a good contact. It was already tightened all the way so cleaning alone would help and I had to replace it. Problem gone.
