I pulled my 91 awd 5 spd into the garage yest. it was shifting normal "little grindy for 3rd" so i decided to try to check and top off the fluid so i jacked it up added some 75-90 cause it was a little low' It took almost a qt to make it start running out. and now i get this odd short but noticable like vibration or maybe even a miss maybe at almost exactly 4k in all gears if i accelerate slowly its very noticable but goes away quickly even if i keep it hold at 4k when is starts it just does it then stops after a couple seconds. if i accelerate fast it just does it for a second then stops. so i thought i over filled it so i pullled the fill plug with it flat on the ground and im not over filled. now im thinking i may have done something to one of the axles by jacking it up alot? I also have a wheel bearing that is or may be going bad. could that cause axle viberations?

And ideas would be very appreciated. oh i also replaced the washers on the oil feel line on top of the turbo and i get slightly better oil pressure now but i still get a small leak which has nothing to do with anything really not sure why i mentioned it haha .

Jacking it up shouldn't hurt the axles (done that myself), but you don't specify the transaxle oil you're coming from. My OE oil was a real problem at 120Kmi and I ended up replacing it. However, not every transaxle oil is the same and what you purchased may not work well in your transaxle.

its castrol syntec Gear Oil 75-90W Full synthetic.I cant remember what i put in there origionaly but what ever it was it worked good i wish i could remember sooo bad!!! i also forgot to mention that my Center Diff inside the trans is welded. I have been doing some reading and im thinking i willl give syncromesh a shot to see if it makes any diffrence i mean it almost has to be the fluid its the only thing that changed besides the level which is now good and it still does it . so im not sure if i need limited slip or not?? Also if i push the clutch in it doesnt do it and if i rev in neutral id doesnt do it and it stops immedeatly when you go higher in rpms. :hmm:

I tightened the crossmembers under the front of the car that go from the subframe to the front bumper support and it helped alot so now i guess its just a vibration thing. I put syncromesh in at the proper level on flat ground and it still does it a little. i wouldnt normaly worry about stuff like this but i simply changed the fluid and now its acting funny so somthing dumb has to be wrong i guess. ????

Our transaxles require manual transmission fluid, not hypoid gear oil (different additives), so if you put the wrong kind in that will mess up shifting, but the vibration is something else. If you turn a small radius circle with a welded center differential, the rear wheels are going to skip/slide some so could that be the vibration you feel? However, if the fluid level was down a quart, it's possible there was transmission damage.

My personal experience is Syncromesh is good for shifting, but might be a little thin for the center differential, but yours is welded so it may not make a difference. Have you checked the transfer case and differential fluid levels?

I dont know what changed but after putting that syncromesh in, it shifts way better and the vibrations went away! i wasnt actualy low a qt i had the car jacked way up and over filled it first haha "brainfart"

but ya been driving it alot and now it is smooth as silk, 3rd is still a little grindy but my shift plate bushings are pretty worn too so that doesnt help. but thanks all :D

Might want to do a search on syncroshit and pay attention at the damage/excessive wear that occurs when people use it. It's your trans though so I personally don't care if thats what you want to use then ok, I thought maybe you had been told it was great and might be unaware of the conscience of using it.

P.S. Jacks does a great job, even on the econo rebuilds.
