So I finally got my engine apart earily this morining. After removing the oil pan, I found many shavings stuck to the oil pick up screen. I am replacing my crank, rods and pistons, is there anything else that could be damaged? Should I replace my oil pump? How can i get all the shavings out of the engine? I wasnt expecting this because my engine was running great when I pulled it out.OMG

I would get your crank checked and replace all rod and main bearings and also get your rods checked. I would consider getting a new oil pump. take the motor to the car wash after it is torn apart and wash it good and wash the oil pan out also thats what I did.

You shouldn't have to replace them entirely, just have a mchine shop turn them down. You only have to replace the pistons if they bore it out.
Which by the way is another thing to check since I don't know what was damaged. If the walls of the cylinder are bad, have them bore and deck it. (Align hone bored is better yet). Just give them the whole lower end and have them do it up... They should warantee the work too...

A new oil pump is very wise.. Along with timing, water pump, etc...

+1 this is a smart thing to do since its tore down to the block anyway. And since your replacing things the idea that 95talin_in_ma suggested about changing the timing belt and water pump is a good idea. But good luck with it man.

The only reason that I am replacing the crank is to get rid of the crank walk issues that are prone to the early 2Gs. I have already ordered 20 over pistons, the thing that I am worried about is that those shavings are in the oil lines, oil pump or even in the turbo. Is there any good way to clean those lines? (I have the engine mounted on a stand right now) Also, Napa told me that it would be $300 for a new oil pump. Is that a typica price?

I dont know about average price, but i trust Napa over any other auto parts store.

mitsupartsdirect.com new front case with oil pump is $190....just ordered one the other day, along with all genuine Mitsu timing parts and water pump. Ordered it friday afternoon, recieved it yesterday morning at about 9. Awesome company to deal with, I highly recommend them to anyone.

Theoretically those shavings should not have reached the lines (Assuming they were from a bearing). The screen did it's job by not letting the big chunks in, the next pass through is the filter to get all of the small particles. If you put a new oil pump in, there shouldn't be any worries.

If you want to clean them, blow them out with some air pressure. Spray some carb cleaner and spray them out again.
You could also make some AN lines. It's really easy. I used to think it was hard and then started doing them for my race car. Jegs has an awesome assortment. They look good and flow better and won't collapse or rust.

good luck!:thumb:

i had a ton of bearing shavings in my 6bolt iam building also...
I am about to order a oil pump for it tommorow, ( which that, and waiting for my 2g pistons to get in is the last stage of the engine build up before I drop it in) do you recommend only mitsu parts, or would it be ok to get this 180 dollar oil pump I seen at advanced autozone?

Might as well eliminate the balance shaft too.
