How is't important if the intercooler is?
I have double stock cooler. but i don't know if can the protection from warm air from the engine make the intake air colder?

a friend has told then the filter isn't warm after has made this protection.
does it mean then the air in intake manifold is colder?

what do you know about it in the USA? at the fotos I have seen here i didn't see such protection. why? in california for example is very hot.

Yo! How's the weather over there? :)

Here's a good example of a bunch of ways people have built "cold air intakes" or "hot air blockoffs" for their DSMs.

If you have an open filter, the air the filter gets will be very hot, being close to the manifold and turbo. If you build a blockoff, it will have to suck air from a cooler location, which is always better for the turbo.

An intercooler does the same thing, cooling the intake air, but if you can cool it down beforehand it does even better.

A lot of people haven't done it because it's hard to do so it looks good, and it's a bit of work to get everything to fit correctly.

Other things you can do to get cooler air in the engine bay: Get some exit ducts for your hood a-la Evolution, cut a scoop above the filter (not so great, rain can get it wet).

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing to make :)

Does the guy on the Moscow club have a FMIC? Where he cut the hole for the air intake looks like it's in the same place as where the SMIC is.

If you have a FMIC, you can put the filter in where the SMIC used to be, and then scoop in a lot of cool air. You just have to be careful about big puddles.

you're kidding

with our roads? how will I protect the filter?

it's almost impossible here. but the idea is very good. I'll think about it.
Maybe we'll invent something

thanks
