There is a lot of good info on this subject. Some really good info on DIY COP was posted not more than 2 days ago.

The benefits are there,no doubt. Though most say the mod is unnecessary until high boost levels are reached, and even then, a well sorted/functional, stock like ignition system has proven reliable dating back to high HP "muscle car" era racers. Sure, money can be spent on that mod if you choose. It all depends on your level of disposable income

Just make sure you use coils that have the correct dwell unless you really like frying, buying and replacing coils.

As for my personal opinion (which you didn't ask for,but this is the internet after all) I have no problem claiming vanity. They are clean. COP can clean up the engine bay. They look the part. They serve their purpose while looking that part. Totally unneeded for my current application and what my car will see in the future, but ultimately please my eye when I lift the hood.

Google COP DIY DSM. Google eats acronym and shits out things for your brain. It's pretty neat.

Thanks man, but the cop and msd came with the car when I bought it. So im not spending any money doing it:hellyeah:
 
I'd say with an MSD, as long as it's one of the good batches, there's no drawback to a COP setup coupled with a CDI. Stronger spark, better throttle response, cleans up the plug wire rats nest, spark cut 2-step instead of fuel cut that the ECU does, and on and on. People either love a COP setup or hate them, and it comes down to preference really. Some people will fight to the death defending their rats nest plug wires and stock waste-spark system. I'd say if you got it, run it. If you hate it and can't get it to work, you can always sell it and make some good money.
