hello.

i have searched around the forums a litte, and all i can find is how to install a headunit in a 2g eclipse that has the 1 plug and the plug for the factory amp.

my 1g has two plugs for the stereo and another for the amp. where do i get the harness to plug my headunit into? i still want to use my factory amp.

when i got the car, it just had a massive hole where the radio went. is there any sort of brackets that im missing to hold the a single slot headunit?

i have a headunit installed now, but i have used clips to install the headunit so i didnt cut the factory harness. i already have aftermarket sony speakers that came with the car.

thanks guy for answering all my newbie questions. if there was a tech article on it, that would be great. if not, maybe ill make one.

anyone??

My 1g had a scosche radio install kit in it when i bought it. It's a walmart brand by the way. Basically it's a dual din plastic piece where you mount the headunit into. You put it in the upper slot and the lower serves as a storage compartment, or at least that's how I have mine setup. Then you have the radio wiring harness that comes with it which has the two factory plugins on it. So you plug that into the factory harnesses, wire the headunit into that (which I did with wire nuts), and then you mount the whole assembly into the vehicle. The assembly mounts using four screws, one in each corner. This is the easiet way to install an aftermarket headunit in my opinion. Hope this helps! :thumb:

1G wiring color codes for your viewing pleasure:
(from the12volt.com)

Constant 12V+ --- Red/Black
Switched 12V+ --- Blue
Ground --- Chassis (any metal bracket)
Illumination ---Green/White
Dimmer --- Black/Yellow
Antenna ---White/Black

Left Front (+) ---White/Blue
Left Front (-) ---Black/Blue
Right Front (+)--- White/Red
Right Front (-)--- Black/Red
Left Rear (+)--- Yellow/Blue
Left Rear (-)--- Gray/Blue
Right Rear (+)--- Yellow/Red
Right Rear (-)--- Gray/Red

Be warned: colors can be difficult to tell apart, so arm yourself with a volt-ohm meter and test each wire to be sure. Unfortunately that will require removal of interior panels to get access to speakers. Speakers would have to be removed as well to get access to wires.

Yes for the 1g there is a head unit bracket, as for the 2g I'm not sure their setup. But the 1g bracket holds the head unit in place and u put trim piece around radio. Aka radio bezel. Check jnz tuning under their OEM section, and I actually saw one on eBay last night I believe it was $15.00

Scosche has never been a Wally brand. They are privately owned Company that is actually pretty large now and carries many patents. They also own many other brands. I used my first Scosche install in the late 80s when I installed a Alpine Cassette head unit in my Buick Skyhawk T Type in high school.
