i didnt place this in the n/t forums cause its not really about bolt ons, just some general questions and just showing off.

so my cousin threw a bearing last january(05), we got the motor out, ordered the howell master rebuild kit with forged internals, got that in june, had the shop build the motor, and finally got the motor out last week from them. so we are in the process of bolting all the extras on, cleaning stuff, and getting it ready to go back in.

i ran into a few problems. i personally wasnt there when him and his father unbolted EVERYTHING in the motor and threw it all in a bag. had this been a 4g63 we wouldnt have this discussion, but its a 420 and i dont know where much if anything goes. my job was to get the motor/tranny out of the car, not take it apart. now since its almost a year later, they dont remember where shit went.

i found this little plug in the bag.

im assuming its a coolant plug/sensor of sorts. now there is a bung for it on the block where it looks the coolant runs through the block. it threads in there a good bit, but when it wont thread in any further, theres still 1/8 space between the plug nut and the block, i could fit a couple washers in there. btw the spot i think it goes is the only place on the block it will thread into, and thats under the lower intake manifold on the tranny side of the motor.

and i found what i believe is the knock sensor(98% sure its it), but theres like 4 places on the block it can thread into. i went by the diagram on the chiltons which shows it just floating there and not really showing the block, so im assuming as long as its in the general area itll pick up knock anyways.

heres a pic of the unknown(but assuming coolant) sensor and the knock(assuming) sensor. i think im right?

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/509528/7 for more pics of the motor. its a 420a, using JE pistons(8.6 CR), Eagle rods, Crane 0014 cams, Crane adjustable cam gears, and shitloads of other stuff.

after the motor is in and running right(which will be a feat in itself) then my cousin plans on cleaning the car up, paying off bills, then going with the star stage2 kit, since the motor will be ready for some nice bewst. im still researching what to do with fuel/tuning though.

anyone?

i really need to know what those sensors are and if i got them in the right place. im heading over to my cousins house tonight to hopefully finish the motor and trans assembly and get it ready for the drop in, and id like to know if i got it right. thanks..

well mounting a oil pressure gauge is the last thing on the list to do. we just need this car running and moving, its been sitting collecting dust for a year now.

btw dont worry about it being dirty, im cleaning shit and spraying the plugs with electrical terminal cleaner as i go. as long as the sensor itself works ill be happy. but ill tell him maybe he needs a new oil pressure switch/sensor, shouldnt cost much

and thanks for the offer. so far everyone on this project knows shitloads about 4g63 stuff, and were all giving wtf faces when weird parts are shown to us, but we work it through. the bag-0-bolts isnt that bad either, ive gotten almost everything bolted to the motor(alt, PS pump, ac compressor, water lines, intake and exhaust manifold, motor mounts), and my buddy installed his new clutch into his tranny, so the tranny is ready to go in.

btw did i get the knock sensor right?

yeah,if you got the oil pressure right, the only other hole on the back of the block is for the knock sensor.your ok.hey when you guys finish and she's running with confidence, maybe you guys can bring her down to one of the sactown meets.I'd love to see the 420 get it's boost on.
