Hey guys quick question, So my plan for this weekend is to change the Timing Belt and Balance Shaft Belt also the Water Pump. I got a Gates Timing Belt and the Gates Balance Shaft Belt I got the whole kit, Also a new Water Pump! I'm trying to get the major maintenance out of the way before I do any type of modfications! Anyways after I got home from Kragen's I was checking the timing belt box and saw a sticker that said PRODC. 08/2005 I was like WTF?!? THATS OLD!!!!! So I looked at the Timing Belt and it looks fine to me. So should that belt be fine? or should I get a new one well with a newer date?? HAHA! just making sure dont need this crap going out on me and blowing up my motor! Thanks - Ryann!

i work for a very large repair shop chain and 2005 is by no means the oldest belt ive installed its very common to pull a belt out of the box and find that its more than a few years old .... personally if its my own engine and seeing that that kit is not cheap i would go back to the store and ask to exchange it hopefully you didnt open the clear plastic wrapper because if you did they prob wont take it back.... oh and ive never had a new belt fail on me in the 17 years ive been doing this and i almost alays use gates and dayco kits

I wouldnt think a Tbelt would fail because of old age if it hasnt been used. They are reinforced with steel. BUT if you are that anal, go back to the place of purchase and see if theyll swap it for some fresh rubber ;)
