Ok I have all the parts from my donor car to do the 5 speed swap on my auto. We pulled the trans Tcase Rear Diff shift cables peddles and shifter mount in 2.5 hours last night.

Now the parts are really greasy and a mess so I want to know how sealed they are to be power washed or something to clean them up? Or would I be best to just use degreaser and a hose or something.

ALso what oils are recommended for the Tcase and Rear diff?

Thanks for any help. Im thinking of Vfaqing this but there is so much stuff I don't think I can document it fully enough to be helpful.

i also had to do a tranny swap and yes that are a lot of really greasy parts. for the parts that are just metal and no seals you can soak them in white gas and the grease will just melt off. Now for the other parts like the tranny that have seals in them i would use something like simple green (medium degreaser) and a scrub brush. Then wash off with hose after your done scrubing. If you use a pressure washer it might break seals or it might not work at all.

I pressure washed my tranny and transfer case when I had them out. Just stuffed rags in all the holes as deep as I could with a screwdriver, sprayed some degreaser all over the parts and then pressure washed them. After that just to be safe I flushed out the tranny and transfer case as best I could with some cheap fluid before I went back in with the good stuff. I used BG synchroshift II.

Synchromesh. BG makes Synchroshift.

I'd shy away from a power washer, a bit more pressure there than I'd want around seals and vents. Just be careful if you do it that way.

I'd use a big, semi-soft scrub brush and Simple Green, one of the orange cleaners, Gunk or Dawn detergent.

You could always just replace the seals after you clean it, like you are supposed to when you pull those parts off your car. What's the extra 40 bucks you will spend on seals so you don't have puddles under your car?

Thanks for the replies guys. I found some gunk in it that I didn't want to see so I sent it off to the trans shop for a rebuild. So it should come back to me sparlking clean.

Wish me luck on the 5 speed AWD swap :p

i'm not sure if i'm wrong on this or not but here it goes. DSM's are mitsu/chrysler cars that were built untill 1997/98. then they split and mitsubishi made the 98/99 on there own without chrysler. the penzoil synchromesh is made for the copper synchro's in the chrysler tranny. so since they split does the 98/99 still have this same copper synchro's or did they go a diff route. i was told at NAPA not to put the penzoil synchromesh in my car for this reason and i went Royal Purple Max Gear which buy the way is awesome stuff. what do u guys think?

I use this stuff and it sucks for my car. When I got my car 2nd gear was really crunchy and some times it wouldn't go into 1st from a stop. I tried GM Synchromesh and everything went smooth as BUTTER! It was perfect, I was so happy. Then when I changed my clutch, I needed some tranny fluid and the only stuff I could get my hands on at the time was pennzoils synchroshift. After that, a lot of the clunky, stickiness came back. No where near as bad as when I first got it, but worse than it was. I plan on going straight back to GM or maybe give the BG stuff a try.

GM and Pennzoil are exactly the same product. Perhaps there's something wrong with your head.
