Edmonton,
hey people well im haveing a huge problem cause i just got my tranny re-built and bought a act 2100 off the trader. the clutch was installed but never used, n e way my mechanic installed it and i guess it bolted right up on the stock flywheel with no problems, but with the release bearing that the guy sent me, it was like there was no clutch when you pushed the clutch in. so my mechanic takes out the tranny again and takes out the release bearing and puts one in which he gets from partsource. now the clutch still doenst work right, when he tries to put it in gear it grinds. he was trying to show me something about the forks not going far enough or something. n e way i called the guy i bought the clutch from and he said that he sent me some pivot ball that was connected to the release bearing... what is a pivot ball? and i dont think it was there. n e way is there anyway that the clutch would bolt up to the car with no problmes but then not work? i dont get it. could the release bearing be wrong or something. im so lost!

Well then, Either that Clutch Setup you got off the trader is crap, or you should look into have the flywheel stepped to the proper height, Did you have the flywheel stepped?

I suggest look over this page carefully look HERE it really helped me diagnose alot of my problems.

yes, i looked at that site also, i got the flywheel machined, but to be honest i knew nothing of this stepping stuff before i brought it in, so is it a good assumption to make that the machine shop had no idea either? how can i find this out? the tranny is being dropped tommorow again. can i call the machine place and ask if the stepped it? should they have known this to begin with? is this with all flywheels or just ours?

Not being stepped correctly could be a very BIG problem. Stepped incorrectly is could be fully engaged or not engaging at all. Sounds like you need to drop tranny and have it stepped according to the page I had you look at. I havent a clue if this is a DSM thing, but I know its a VERY BIG deal with the turbo cars. I say bring the flywheel to a good machine shop with the article i linked you too, they should get it right that way. Good Luck

Also, before he pulls the tranny, see where your clutch fork is sitting first coming out of the bellhousing, refer to the bottom the the page I linked you to. If not centered or towards the drivers side, you can either shim it with a washer, or buy new. keep mr updated
