I have two problems.

1. Overheating - Under normal driving the temperature remains normal. Under extended periods of boost, such as going up a large hill, the temperature begins to raise beyond the half-way point. It has gotten as high as 3/4 to maximum. When I notice the temperature is raising, I drop the revs and stay out of boost and the tempertaure drops back to normal. I have a slimline fan and the A/C fan is still installed. Both fans seem to be working properly. I have witnessed them turning on when the car was idling in my driveway. The engine has about 200 miles on the rebuild.

2. Datalogger port doesnt work and the turbo timer doesnt work. With the turbo timer connected the engine continues to run after i shut it off and the turbo timer display is not lit.

Any help with these problems will be very appreciated. Thanks.

We checked the thermostat last night and it wasnt closing properly. We replaced it with a new thermostat, but the car is still overheating. I dont know what else could be causing it to overheat. Suggestions??

We fixed the diagnostic port.

I'm wondering if my problem could still be with the thermostat. I have a 1G waterneck with 2G temp sensors, and I'm assuming that I have a stock 1G Thermostat which according to AdvancedAuto is a 192/195 deg thermostat. They also say that the stock 2G thermostat is 180deg. Is this correct?

My thinking is that I should try a 180deg thermostat. They also have a 160 degree thermostat.

We logged that car last night and when the needle was slightly below the midpoint the logger was reading a consistent 223deg. We didnt have the logger connected when the car started overheating.

try a 180thermo.

But since its only heating under boost, It could be a headgasket problem were it leaks only under pressure.

check your radiator fluid, see if their any signs of oil or bubbles when running.

maybe you just need to clean and flush the system.

My nephew had the same problem with his MR2 after a rebuild. It was a leaking head gasket. Under low boost it was ok & street driving it was ok BUT in the HWY & high boost it overheated or got really close to overheating. After he replaced the head gasket the problem went away. Take note, it was a new head gasket on the rebuild & still it was leaking. Another or a new gasket was installed AGAIN.

Installed 180deg thermostat and wired my A/C fan to run constantly.

No more overheating!

I know it may be kind of late, but I also wired my fans to run all the time. I also don't have a tremostat at all. I had to do lots of things to get my car to run cool. You might also want to try some water wetter.

sorry quick question
is it safe to run without the thermostat my car is overheating also and i just replaced the thermo and its still over heating
thanx
