Winnipeg,
Hello everyone,

I am very new to DSMs, as in I just bought a 92 Tsi AWD last week. I noticed that when I accelerate hard, as soon as it gets close to 5k RPMs I get some "scary" sounds coming out of the exhaust... almost sounds like it is over boosting. I don't think the car ever had a boost controller in it, but I am not sure.

So I did some research, and took a look under the hood. I noticed that the vacuum line that goes into the wastegate actuator has a Tee in it, but the bottom part of the tee leads to an open vacuum tube. I also noticed that there was an open nozzle on the Air Intake (where it looked like a vacuum tube should go. So on a hunch, I hooked the open vacuum tube up to it, and the boosting seems normal now. and the crazy sound is gone.

I included a picture here, could someone please tell me how this should be hooked up, I have the feeling the boost may have been running full out, and I am worried I could hurt the turbo, or worse the engine.

Thank you very much.

If the red hose is going nowhere then you want to cap that off, to prevent boost leaks - or just replace that tee with a straight connector.
Why are there two blue hoses in the picture...the one blue hose on the IC pipe should be going to the wastegate, and the BOV line can run from any vaccum source.

I connected the red hose to a nipple that was on the Air Intake, just after the Air can.

The blue hose is the same hose, it just loops out of the picture.

Is connecting that red line back into the air intake okay? Or should I just cap it off?

Also, can you find the stock boost control solonoid? If no, hereitcomes's solution will keep you running.

The red hose is blowing boost into your intake (boost leak), and no real boost control. Then cap off the fitting on the intake.

Thank you for your help so far, I really appreciate it.

I will cap that line off tomorrow, where should I find the BCS, and what should I do with it when I find it?

Unfortunately, I forget exactly how it is to be connected, but it still may be on the car yet. Look for a little plastic tee-like gizmo, with a 2 wire plug in it. It should be near the air can. If you can't find it, dont worry, not using it won't hurt anything, though if it's not plugged in to the wires, it may (I think) throw a check engine light. If it hasn't yet, it may not. Couldn't hurt to get a boost gauge & boost controller, in that order, next.:thumb:

Heheh, I already order the boost gauge yesterday :p

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to destroy my new project!

Thank you very much for the help!
