Hey guys. I've got a 96 GST with a 6bolt swap. A garage did the swap before I got the car and it never ran when my friend got the car back. I've been working on it since. I tracked the no start to the power transistor, bought a used transistor from a friend and the car started right up. It was idling weird and wanting to die. It ran for about 5 minutes then I left for the night. Next time I went over there the car was doing the same thing before I got the other transistor. I tried to test it and it seems its blown.

I've looked for problem wires but cant find anything. I'm extremely frustrated. Everything appears to be connected correctly. The CPS/CAS wire was made by the garage in the RRE style. They crimped the wires together with metal crimps. I don't know what to do next.

Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions I could try? At this point I'm stumped. I need to get this car running ASAP as my fiance and I are sharing a car at the moment and its very difficult LOL.

If you need any more information let me know.

Any help is appreciated greatly!

This is going to be a simple minded reply, but are you 100% certain that all of the electronics on the car are good to go? Many different devices could cause the same problems as your describing. I would steal an ACTRON scanner or something of the sort (like a logger) and try to get some live stream data of what the electronics/sensors are actually reading. You might find something simpler such as no connectivity to a certain sensor, or a sensor which has simply gone bad. Double check that ECU while your in there!

Im pretty sure its the problem. I got a ptu from a friend and put it in and the car started first try. It did run a little rough though. But now its doing the same thing it was when I had the first ptu. Im going to buy another one tomorrow and going to try it. I guess that ptu could have been going out but I dont think thats the case.

I dont know anybody with a logger or where to get one. It would be nice to have though!

Anybody else?

I pulled the ecu and opened it up and everything looks normal. No burn marks and nothing looks like it's leaking...anybody else got any ideas of things to check? I just ordered a PTU. should be here tomorrow. I just don't want to blow this one too!

Yeah but even if I didn't, all that would do is make it run rough. I've tried it both ways to be sure but I'm pretty sure its right.

Pictures of the ecu would be nice. Something could have just fried. The IAC (idle air control) valve is known to go bad and take the ecu with it. Which is one of many things that can cause rough idle.

Its not just the rough idle. Its blown 2 power transistor units. The ecu is good. I didnt smell anything from it, the check engine light comes on and goes off. Everything else seems to be good. I got another power transistor and im going to try to redo some wires and see if it blows this one. I wont be able to do it til sunday though. I just want to check everything to be safe. I dont want to have to buy another transistor. Im just not sure what I need to check.

Anybody? Im gonna have about an hour to mess with it in the morning. Thats not much time so I want to have a game plan. I just bought a multimeter.
