I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much pressure the clutch line had. I had to replace my master cylinder today and had to saw through the pipe with a dremel to get the old one off. I've got the new master cylinder on now with 3/16 tubing connecting the new clutch piping to the existing with 4 hose clamps holding it on. I'm having a hell of a time bleeding my clutch though and I was wondering if I'm sucking in air or something. I can post a picture of anyone is utterly confused. Thanks.

did you add fluid and bleed it correctly?

Topped off the reservoir but when I go to bleed it, the pedal just goes to the floor. No compression at all. Is this normal for a new master cylinder? I did get some air bubbles and stuff coming up when I first put brake fluid in it. Normally I have one person pump the clutch pedal and I'm under the car working the bleeder valve on the slave.

the only thing i can say is if its all hooked up correctly then just keep pumping that clutch pedal, it will have ALOT of stuff it has to get pressure to and alot of air to get out of the system. keep trying to bleed it, pumping the clutch alot, keep bleeding it and topping off the system.

Eventually it has to build up pressure though right? Someone needs to come up with a better method of doing this...

Evidently hose clamps do not do a sufficient job when it comes to the pressure in your clutch line as evidenced by the large amount of brake fluid lining the corner of my engine bay. Hooray for me...I'm gonna spend tomorrow evening bending brake line.

Damn, when I started reading this, I sped down to the bottom to tell you not to use hose clamps because the pressure is immense, but I was too late. Sorry, dude. I hope you didn't get brake fluid on the outside of your car. By the way, when I replaced my clutch master, I had to pump the clutch pedal several times, pulling it off the floor each time and adding fluid along the way, before the pedal would finally come back up on its own.

Heh. Thanks but serves me right for trying to do a half-ass job. Maybe someone knows how much brake line I'm supposed to get to remedy this. Napa sells brake line up to 5' but the more I look at it, the more I think that it's longer than that.

EDIT: Napa actually sells 7' lines which turned out pretty well for the car. If you follow the stock piping scheme, you'll probably only need 6' but it turned out ok (so far).
