Pre Painted Ebay Bumper Covers

It's risky. You don't know how wel the paint will match, and what kind of prep they do. Of course I can be wrong, and they do all the necessary steps, and the work is quality.

To be honest, that is a good price if of course they paint it nicely and match oem.

It cost me $200 to paint an oem 97 front, thats even with the bumper already out of the car. And thats a "hook up" price. And the front bumper cost $100 from ebay (new oem style).

So again, if what that seller has to offer has good quality work on the paint, that is a very good deal. Save time from bringing it to a paint shop, and finding one that will hook you up on a paint job for $200. (ask around to see how much they charge, no MAACO and crap like that). When I asked around here, just to paint the front bumper was $300 and up.

Of course its risking to see if it will be good or bad from ebay. If you decide to go for it, let us know how it turns out and take pics.

If you do get it... and your still going to need it cut... Take a little L Bracket you use for wood works n stuff you can get at Home Depot... Measure on it at like 1-2", depending on how much you need cut off... and use that to help you line a perfect cut all around the bumper. That way it will look OEM. Also don't use a saw... Prefibly if you have the time, slowly do it with a Razor. Or you can use a cutaway wheel... or a jig saw. Saw Zaw ?sp? are too messy... sure they get the job done very fast, but just soo flippin bouncy and you will screw it up.

I made my own tool with a razor blade and a metal L Braket to make the perfect cut 1.5" Back and it fit PERFECT and didn't have any area's that have too much cut off...

Pre painted is good if the paint came out of the same can. Your car, and their paint was not mixed at the same time. There will be a color variation, how much depends of how well that can spray a bumper. Most pre-painted items are fanned out at the corners to blend better, I'm assuming at that price it just painted solid and cleared. If the paints good quality and its packaged well for shipping, its a decent price. Just remember though that if it gets scratched or spider cracked in transit (assuming their going to put a urethane in the paint so it would be more flexible) its going to need a repaint, and labor would be more than buying another unpainted bumper and paint.

You should be able to get a bumper sprayed and matched for less than 300, for that price, maybe 50 more, you could have the fender and hood blended to match. Just go somewhere outside of downtown chicago. 1 pint of paint, 1/2 hardener, and 1 quart of clear would cost you 65.00, the rest is labor. That would more than cover the front end of an eclipse.

Well, coming from somebody who has had experience with Pershing Auto I WILL DEFINITELY TELL YOU TO NOT BUY IT!!! I purchased a front bumper from them a while back when I converted my 95 GS and the bumper was fcuking HORRIBLE. When I got it, I could immediately tell that the prep work was either not done properly or not done at all. Then 2 weeks later the paint started stripping and that's when I noticed that the bumper wasn't primered. Yeah, that's right; they fcuking just painted the bumper with no primer or prep work and you could actually see the bumper material under the areas where the paint was stripping. DON'T DO IT MAN. I left those mother####ers a negative feedback and when I called they wanted me to pay to send it back.

In these pics there were other parts that I painted with touch up paint...

I also have a pre-painted bumper from ebay. They DO NOT use primer, so the paint doesn't stick. My air compressor almost took all the paint off. Its total garbage.

That's guy, that's exactly what I wanted to hear, one way or another.

Since that's out, hows the quality of the primered bumper covers that are not painted? How's the fit, quality, and adhesion of the paint?

Thanks again

Whatever you find, that answer your looking for is don't buy anything primed or painted from ebay unless its oem. Buy a bumper and have someone local paint it , or blend it in for you. It would either cost the same or a little more. In either case, it would be much cheaper than installing a poorly painted bumper that looks like crap only having to remove it and take it somewhere to remove the paint and repaint it properly like it shoul'd have been done the first time. A little reminder, if something looks too good to be true it probably is. You'd be better off with a rattle can.

On a side note, don't cutout your bumper with a saw, your only asking for burnt paint and chips.
