hey guys i have searched for weeks to find someone with the same problem but nobody does i have a 95 eclipse 420a[n/t] my problem is i have my alternator choke fuse bolted down and while its bolted down i cannot connect the positive terminal on the battery or it will fry the fuse[ yes the negative terminal can be put on] just not with the positive terminal at the same time:banghead: im so confused my battery is getting 12v this problem is causing my car not to start also how can this happen when my ignition isn't even on?:confused:

You have a short somewhere. I was blowing other fuses but my problem was the P/O didn't bolt that cute little alternator fuse all the way down. It was lovely. Time to start checking wires. :)

 so is there a possibility that the altenator wire itself is shorted?

excuse my ignorance but when you say a short you mean a bad wire right? and thanks for the previous information.

The charging harness is a fairly small harness and pretty easy to take off, might be easier just to take it off the car and check it out with a fine tooth comb!

When I say short I mean like a worn wire or exposed wire that is hitting something that it shouldn't therefore killing or "shorting" out the system, in this case, your fuse. To kill that monster fuse, it should be a fairly obvious wiring problem somewhere.

it would consist of the terminal and alternator wires correct? any other connecting sensors i should look out for?

That is what I would look at first. Check your battery cables first. The cables running from your terminals on down. Then I would check all wires connecting to your alternator. Something in between your battery and alternator isn't right. Also... just for grins and giggles... make sure all the other fuses in your fuse block are the amperage that are supposed to be in there. Make sure none of them are higher than the number on the fuse box top.

so i ripped apart my harness and found no cut wires i did find that when the connector is plugged in the alternator by itself there is no problem but when i bolt on the second bottom connector this causes me not to b able to put my positive terminal on without the sparking :banghead :anyone have any idea what is causing this madness:pray:

problem solved there was no spacer in between the fuse link connector and the alternator my alternator fuse no longer blows:rocks::hellyeah:
