so i recently changed my Power steering pump because it sounded like crap and no matter how much power steering fluid i put in it, it never fixed a thing, i even put some lucas and nothing, so i decided to get a used pump, and i still have the exact same issue, it sounds like its grinding when its idling, it acts as if it doesn't have fluid, steering is hard as s#@%, oh yeah and when i shut the car off all the fluid foams up and starts spewing out of the reservoir, this is driving me nuts!! HEEEELLLPPP!!

Did you bleed it? Remove the cap, turn the wheels from side to side a few times and see if that gets the air out.

is there another way to bleed the system? i tried this and still the fluid is foaming and spewing out!.

Lift the front end up when you're bleeding. Go to full lock each direction and hold it for a few seconds at a time. Do it at least ten times.

Okay guys so, i took off the reservoir cap turned the wheel all the way to the right and all the way to the left, i held it for a few seconds on either side, and still that annoying sound is there!! what gives.??!

You definitely don't want to hold it all the way to either side when the car is running for any length of time. If there's air in the system you run the risk of burning up a new pump.

What type were you adding to your last pump and what type of fluid have you put in your new one? Using the wrong fluid can cause problems. My eclipse uses ATF, not power steering fluid. Check a service manual for your car exactly though.

And I'd avoid Lucas in anything for a newer car. That stuff is so thick it often gums up and causes more bad than good.

ATF and Power Steering Fluid are the same thing just One has a dye in it so that you can tell which one is leaking if there is some under a vehicle.

ATF has friction modifiers, detergents, and withstands a greater heat range than power steering fluid. And CVT transmission fluid, used in many newer cars, is almost the same color as power steering fluid. If either fluid was acceptable, which in some cases they both are, the service manual will say. But if they only recommend one or the other its probably for a good reason.

So i have been doing everything you guys have said, and i still haven't seen a difference, the sound is still there. is there another way of purging the system?? how can i tell if its my rack an pinon?
