i have my alternator relocated to the back of the engine with the jays racing kit. now the power steering belt drives the waterpump and crank pulley. how can i delete power steering with that. where can i get a a shorter belt?

The way I do it is. Get a piece of string , wrap it around the pullys u want a belt on . Then rake it in to any parts store and they will match it up to the proper belt. Zip ties work great also.

When I needed a shorter belt on my other cars I just used one of those flexible tape measures that they use for sewing etc and then just measured what length I needed. Make sure to measure the width of the belt as well.

Use a tape on it. I did this when i relocated my alternator with my own relocation bracket. The string did not work. Measure it off and add 3/8" to whatever you get and this is what your belt size is as belts are measured from the outside

your gonna eliminate the powersteering on a 2G? in my opinion thats a bad idea. makes the steering HEAVY as hell. you wont like it. on a first gen its possible to delete the power steering cause those guys can get a manual steering rack from a base model crap eclipse that came FACTORY with no power steering. when cars come factory with out P/S like many hondas its called manual steering. the rack and pinoin and guts of your current steering box depend on fluid to pump in there and give it a power assist during turns. even if you just loop the lines together down there at the steering box your steering is still gonna suck and you will hate it. as far as i know there is no manual steering rack that us 2G guys can swap to?

i did a powersteering tuck and relocated a ton of shit. made my lines about 2 and a half to 3 feet shorter than the factory routing of the lines. i added a nice front mount powersteering cooler to it. and since the fluid lines anr now short route and i have a nice cooler on it my steering turns like beamer. it is totally possible to tuck the powersteering. dont just eliminate it. thats ghetto

You need Dayco belt 5040410, it is 41" long. I use only the small pulley on the water pump. You will need to shave off the timing marks on the timing belt cover or the belt will not go on. Be sure to make some marks on you cover in case you ever have you set your base timing. Here are a couple pics, sorry about the quality but it was late when I saw your post. I currently have my timing belt cover off, I am painting it and patching the whole created when I removed the timing marks. Living life without power steering can be a bit tough at slower speeds, I depowered mine. While I don't feel that ghetto, I do plan on making an electric pump setup at some point.

im gonna try to get pics up of my current engine bay. its full wire tucked shaved and painted now and i STILL HAVE POWERSTEERING. factory the P/S hard lines route up and over the shock tower. you can do away with that style and re-rig them to be short route. add a cooler. relocate the fluid resivor. you can keep it and still make your bay clean. even the above poster admits his parking lot cornering is awfull.

its not woth it to delete it unless you get a manual sterring rack. can anyone chime in now please? does anyone know of a manual steering rack that will bolt into a 2G? maybe the base model avenger that comes with out power steering? i dont know? but i do know if you wanna see how this is gonna be, pull your P/S belt off and drive it for a few days like that. you'll put it back on for sure! LOL

look into tucking the powersteering. ITS WAY PLENTY WORTH THE EFFORT VS HOW YOUR PLANNING IT. what i once thought would be cool tho, altanator is relocated to where AC once was, what if a guy relocated the powersteering pump down to where the alt. used to be....

now that would be clever and as far as i know never been done. maybe you should be the first :)

wow dude, i just looked over that entire link that was just posted. cool man, thanks. i never thought about taking a factory one and just homemade style making it into a manual rack. thats damn cool. the original poster either needs to do this or do a powersteering tuck. to just plain old remove it is sorta silly in my opinion

The how to "manualize the rack" is what I ment by depowered, this is what i've done to my rack. But keep in mind this thread wasn't ment to debate power steering vs no power steering. He just wanted to know what size of belt and how to do it.

my previous dsm a 98 gst had no powersteering was pretty bad. but the car i have now(gsx) is not a daily driver. thats the only reason why i want to get rid of it

i really want to see you engine bay:D

I have 2g Saturn alternator relocation.
I have a 33.5" belt on crank pulley to alternator
The kit came with a 44.5" belt that goes around powersteering, water pump, and crank pulley. Since I will no longer have powersteering I will need a belt for crank pulley and water pump. How do I get the belt on those pulleys so it can still be tight enough that it won't mess up water pump to cause car to overheat?

You'll be better off buying a new belt that is closer to the proper length. I'm not exactly how long it should be, but you could tie a small rope around the crank and water pump pulleys (pretend the rope is the belt) and cut the rope to the proper length. Then measure how long the rope is. Then you'll have your belt size.
