So the other day I noticed PS fluid on floor so I got it home and checked and the passenger boot? On the rack and pinion is completely torn, and now all my PS is drained and my PS motor is making so much noise because it's dried out, my question is can I just remove the PS belt to stop it from killing the PS motor until I can change the rack and pinion

Ok so I took off the belt, well cut it for now and drove it around the block and the car is HEAVY! But it'll have to do for now, I'll have them add a new belt when I do the rack and pinion anyway. Just didnt want to spend more money on a new PS pump if I blow it out

When you get it up and running again you could put some lucas power steering stop leak in for some added insurance. It may quiet things down because its supposed to help with hard spots and squeels in the rack so I'm sure it will help with the pump as well. If you did damage the pump you could get a used one from a part out or get ahold of Stevie at miller import parts. Good guy to deal with.

The tie rod boot doesn't keep the fluid from leaking. One of your lines has probably rusted out, or the rack seal on that end has failed. I depowered my rack, and took the internal piston out, and sealed the holes up. Just a little stiffer then a manual rack, but no more oil leaks, and less clutter under the hood.

I was going to mention that. Those boots are just there to keep the grease from your innner tie rods inside and also to keep crap outside. No hydraulic fluid is contained within those boots. But at this point, it doesn't matter. You've got a leak somewhere and all your fluid's gone.

i got a BEAUTIFUL re-manufactured rack and pump done by a place out here called one stop.... didnt have parts in stock..... said it would be 2 hours to get them i was like WUT???? then they said they would deliver same day for free. all in all ended up costing me $300 total and about 5 hours from the time i called to the time it showed up and that thing is spotless. point is, you can always call around and find some great service. Mitsu dealers will never provide that great service
