Power loss at mid to high rpm

I have a 92 gs. The idle bounces from one to fifteen, and when I give the car hard throttle I lose all power after 3500 rpm.
My IAC makes a clicking sound when I leave the key in the on posistion with the car off. My valve cover needs replacing because the last owner broke the pcv threads putting in the wrong valve, so that def leaks some.
And just had my clutch done and the mech said he thinks the power the mass air flow is bad.

Basicly dont know where to start.

Possibly plugs and coils?

The wires and plugs are new. coils ? I'm thinking its one if the three issues I listed.

Kind of sounds like a vac leak...

Since no one is there your going to have to be VERY specific and give us a lot of details on what your cars is doing/acting. do you have fuel & spark? Anything unplugged or missing?

Thanks for the help chris. Ok so vacuum leak, yes.the previous owner broke the pcv threads installing the wrong pcv. So pcv is just sitting in the hole lose.

The running is. The car starts but idles at one thousand to fifteen hundres rpm. cruises ok, but when I want to get on it out revs to 3.5 k ish then loses ask power. Also does not want to cruise at low rpm in gear with out eventually sputtering amd shaking....oh and some time start up is dull rpm until I give it a rev. Then its other idle.

Philly thats what the mechanic who did my clutch said. the style of maf I have seems hard to clean. I cant get to the needle.

Id start with a maf, find one that is known to work and try it out.

K, thats what ill do. New maf. Then ill hit the valve cover and pcv. Then maybe the idle controller and posistion sensor.

I seem to be having the same problem in my 90TSI
almost identical symptoms, except for the stripped pcv
i was thinking it was the clutch or the turbo at first, but after reading this, i may have to clean the maf

what would be a good way to clean it?

talon virgin, I just had my clutch changed and still have the sputtering, sudden drastic power loss, and cruise sputters.(clutch was still needing change fyi) I took my MAF out and tryed spraying it with mass air flow cleaner , with no results.

Talon virgin, you can watch some youtube on cleaning mass air flow. And use mass air flow cleaner only.
