powdercoat or dip rims?

Should i powder coat black or dip carbon fiber? I have a red 2g with carbonfiber hood.

I'd say powder coat since you would have to invent the process of being able to 'dip' something in carbon fiber

If you are referring to hydrodipping, I would choose powder coat. Last I heard, the hydrodipping won't last on wheels that see a decent amount of driving from rocks and all that jazz.

Ok i was just wondering if it would last bc they hydrodip guns. But yes i do alot of gravel driving.

Firearms don't see the abuse driving on gravel will. If the company is good, they will give you a recommendation on how it will last with your driving. It's only a paint clear coat that goes on it last I heard.

Hydrodipping or hydrocoating isn't any more durable than paint. LiquidX is right, the best way to go is powdercoating.

I will probably go powder coat for duarabilty. Just wanted to know b/c a guy at work could dip them. But if it won't last it's not worth it.

I was under the impression that you could powdercoat more than just metal, as long as you can get a static charge on whatever you're coating. Please correct me if I'm completely off-base here.

the charge has to conduct, you cant ground something to paint just like in a car

Plastidip won't last long especially if you DD your car. Powdercoat may cost more, but it is more durable and suitable for what you need.

Powder coat last only as long as it doesnt get chipped. Once it gets chipped, then forget it. Trust me rocks can chip powdercoated rims. Do they last a good amount of time, yes they do and look awesome by the way. Only issue is that I dont really like paying a couple hundred dollars to get them done. For 20 bucks, plasti dipped rims looks good and is very affordable. But like anything a chip and theyre done.

well ive done both,PC and Hydro dip...i actually have done them both myself. My exp PC is more durable in the long run. i have the LIP of my rim Hydrographed..hasnt been damaged at all yet.

if you want the BEST results on a less costly budget. Hydrographing is the way to go. If you want them to hold up to the elements and rocks,cover them in MARINE lacquer after. It holds up to cleaning,degreasers,brake dust ect. Ive done it all when it comes to wheels. From paint,PC,Hydo,Plastidip (cover my wheels with this for winter and peel of in spring). Just my opinion.

ANY powdercoating questions? feel free to pm me. I did the sh*t for 7 yrs in a custom shop doing everything from vc's to car frames. Rims???!!!! how nice do you want them to be. if your looking for a show finish, DON'T have them powdercoated. while it is a extremely durable finish, it is difficult to control the finish. i.e. orange-peel, dirt-nibs, craters. powder magnifies ANY imperfection in the metal. if its on a dd and your not overly concerned with perfection than by all means have them powdercoated.
