So I'm wondering exactly how good i can get this car to run as is with this setup:

Evo 3 16g/front mount/hard pipes
2g MAF
560cc injectors
HKS 272 cams

all on SAFC (blue screen w directional buttons). i do have an eprom ecu

i plan on keeping just this setup and just fine tuning it as best as possible. Couple guys have told me I won't be able to maximize this setup unless i get dsmlink.

prev owner supposedly had it tuned for 20lbs of boost. Right now Im just trying to get it mechanically adept as possible and get it tuned by someone who knows what he's doing hopefully sooner than later.

So again, how smoothly can i get this thing to run, or am i just spinning my wheels here unless i get dsmlink/jackal/ostrich etc.

Do you have a wideband o2 sensor? You will be able to get a decent tune with your setup if you have a wideband. You are right in assuming that you will not get the most out of the setup, but it will run pretty good if done right.

wideband is on the list to get in the future- do not have right now. I'm wondering how effective it'd be if i just have someone tune it as is. I've never had a car tuned...at least not with computers haha.

You should be able to put down around 280 awhp. Since you do not have a wideband or any experience I would recommend going to your local dsm tuner to get it tuned. Unless you want to be up to the challenge.

Honestly, you should never reccomend going to a local tuner, unless they have an extensive reputation (obviously a good one). An SAFC is so simple you could do it easily with little knowledge of tuning. Go for it

I totally get what you're saying about local shops...as i'm like a magnet for bad service. Sometimes I get to the point where i"ll pay for the right work so i can focus on other things in that time....however it doesn't always pan out that way.

as far as the safc goes, it's already set on a previous tune...im just wondering how tightly i can get this setup to run as is...Im not one who likes to throw parts after parts on a car and enjoy the surprise later, im more of a less is more kind of guy. I'm leaning towards just getting a chip burned also since i have a eprom ecu.
