Bigglesworth87 - I agree. I like the invader hood; just not on a DSM. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get the Xtreme GT hood again. (PS - happy belated birthday! :rocks: )

Thank you!! Should I be expecting anything in the mail?? :D :p

Bigglesworth87 thanks for the info on the invader hood! :thumb:

HOW is a vented hood better of aerodynamics?? Vent = 'form drag', due to the vent sticking out of the hood instead of a smooth hood surface AND the air coming out of the bay will collide with the air flowing over the hood to cause 'eddies' which will cause 'interference drag'. Both are parasite drag, which is bad for airflow and bad in aerodynamic design. :nono: They are good for engine bay cooling though. I agree on that one. :thumb:

Another thing, wouldn't a hood with an intake, provide more flow to the intake filter and hence increase horsepower? Or is the horsepower increase so small that it is not even noticable with the ram air hood? anyone know?

Bigglesworth87 - I'll try to find a side pic of the invader hood to see what you are talking about.

You will have less lift due to having less air traveling underneath the vehicle. Any air that enters the engine bay on most stock vehicles HAS to exit underneath. Which causes drag AND causes lift.

To maximize a ground effect, however, you will need either an air dam, or undertray system. I'd much rather have a little more drag on top of the vehicle than a whole lot underneath it. You will have drag on a vehicle regardless.

You could put a small NACA style intake right over the air filter if you are desiring cooler air for your engine. Build a sheetmetal shield to block off your air filter from the hot air in the engine bay.

Ram air would work if it was ducted directly to the intake, but I doubt it would be useful on a forced induction engine. Once again, it would probably give you more drag than gains. Perhaps someone with experience on that subject could comment?

I agree 100 % with leet, although I'm no Nikki Lauda.I like the OEM hood which i know you said you didn't want,so my next choice would be the evo style hood, the invader is just plain nasty IMO.

Thanks for the explanation. :thumb: That makes sense. I just didn't factor in the 'lift' in my equation. Cars are a lot different than airplanes ;)

This hood looks much better when it's on the car. Thanks for the link. :thumb:

Quit wishing - anything's possible. :p :rocks:

I like that EVO hood too. Does anyone have any pics of it on another car?

No, sorry for the confusion..... I was referring to a different car. About 5 months ago (or so) you posted pics of someone's silver 2G with a cool looking vented hood. I couldn't remember what the thread was called or even about. Ring any bells?

Hey guys, just getting back to you with an update. I've ordered my hood and my front bumper cover. Both should be here in a month tops, which is a long time to wait but I guess I'll just have to be patient. I'll start posting pics when I get them and I'll let you all know how effective or in-effective the ram air is. I'll also let u know the fitting, it says they're supposed to fit right on the stock hinges. As I said, I'll keep you posted. So what progress are the rest of us making on our cars? List some exterior mods you're trying to do or just list why you like a certain body mod, ie. hoods. Ex. I like that keystone restyling hood because it matches the current body lines and it adds a sexy, low profile scoop that adds functionality and a bit more style to an already stylish car.

I kno this is for 2nd gens but i wanted to put in my 2 cents so dont hate me. The invader IMO doesnt look to bad on the 1st gen, they dont make many of anything for us 1st gens.

You can buy Seibon hoods from: www.vividracing.com

I think I'd stick with a properly vented 2G style hood.

All the angular stuff just doesn't blend well with the 2G body.

Yeah, it resembles the VIS Xtreme GT very much.

Flash - Thanks for the pics of the Seibon's. How is the fitment of a Seibon hood? Good - Bad?

Yes, but keep in mind that I'm no longer working with the OEM body lines. That angular stuff actually fits my car's look quite well. :sneaky:

did import fan ever finalize their wanna be supra hood?

After almost 11 months of trying to buy a hood, and getting the run-around by various distributors and finally importfan themselves, there is no more TRD hood offered. It barely fit the N/T and was not able to fit the turbo. :notgood: looked nice though.
