Well, after getting my car out of the shop, I was told my block was messed up and that I need a new motor. :( I'm bringing the car to another place to get it double checked and am wondering what to do if it does need one. I did some searching and have heard about keeping the 2g head and swapping in a 1g block. Any who has this setup and can comment? Also, anybody have any better ideas of what to do? I don't wanna spend an arm and a leg here but I will to do it right. Any feedback is greatly appreciated......thanx :thumb:

What exactly is messed up? 6 bolt bottom end with a 7 bolt head is fine, you just have to drill out the head to accept the larger 6 bolt head studs or bolts.

To be honest, I don't know exactly what it is. The mechanic said it had to do with a lack of oil and something with the block. I'm gonna bring it somewhere else to get a second opinion and then go from there.

Could be spun bearings? Thats what I found when I pulled my oil pan off. Make sure its not just the balance shafts that are bad though. You can eliminate those and keep going ;). A 6 bolt swap would definately be a good thing though. You can also consider rebuilding if it would end up cheaper for you. But make sure you don't have any cracks in your block.

if your going to do it -- do it - id swap the entire 1g motor (block-head-intake mani)
that way its all set for the 1g CAS ( more of a pita to do with a 95 head )
just my .02

Yeah, a rebuild is also a possibility as long as the block isn't cracked. Anyone have any ideas of how much on average a good shop would charge for a 6 bolt swap? Also, regardless of what I do, does anyone recommend doing anything else while I'm gonna have the motor pulled.

I'll keep the balance shaft removal and motor balance in mind. Any1 else with any experience using a 1g block and a 2g head?

You will find plenty of info by using the search button. These cars are not new so watever you want to do or think of doing, it has been done...just search. :)

I did search, thats how I found out about using the 6 bolt block with the 7 bolt head. Just trying to find people who have done it and can answer some questions I have.

Hey im basically in the same boat you are, im paying 800 to have the engine swapped , then my new head put on the new engine, along with isntalling the motor mount inserts, etc... thats mainly just labor other than theyll provide the fluids and such

WOW, 800 seems like a pretty good deal to me. Keep us updated on how the swap goes. :thumb:

definitely, i talked to them again yesterday they are going to come pick my car up for me and pick up the engine for me when it arrives. Im impressed by their service so far and their price is very reasonable, cant complain yet, ill let ya know how the car is when i get it back :)

The verdict is in.....I need a new bottom end. :( I think I'm just gonna find a good shop around here and have them do a full 6 bolt swap. Any1 know how much this usually costs? Also, where can I bring it in northern NJ to do the swap. I know of Turbo Trix but they are a little far from me. I've been recommended to Broadway Performance but I want to keep my options open and try and find the cheapest place.

I think the standard fee for a 6 bolt swap is around 1000. I am doin my own swap right now cause i just cant see myself paying somebody 1000 in labor.

Yah, I know what you mean. I'm considering doing the swap myself also. How hard is it? I've never done anything as serious as a motor swap, but I have a couple DSM buddys who have. Let me know how your swap is going. Thanx for the reply :thumb:

the 1g heads r better wiht a street port... but if u want to go all out then the 2g head is better with crazy porting... but there isnt enough meat on the runners so they have to weld them up and then port them... so if u r gonna go wiht a minor steet port or just stock then go wiht the 1g head
