possible clutch/tranny problems?

Hey all,

First, I've tried searching and reading through the "similar threads" but didn't really find what I was looking for. So here's hoping you guys are able to help out/pinpoint what might be wrong.

95 GS-T with 92k, profile is current.

Under WOT in second and third gear, there's a very loud whirring-type noise. Also occurs when just cruising around at lower speeds as well all gears, although it is infrequent. Started happening after I put on the UICP and 1g BOV, however I'm not sure if this may or may not be related since I took it apart and put it back together afterwards.

Another problem is that while on the freeway under WOT in third, fourth and fifth gears, my RPM will sort of "slip" from 2500-3500. I still accelerate normally, but it sounds like I'm revving my engine. Any other RPM range and it pulls as it would normally.

From my experience this sounds like a clutch slipping, as far as the whining I'm not sure where that might be coming from my eclipse is an AT but from having clutches slip on other cars the "revving" in 3rd/4th is one of the first indicators. Clutches will usually start slipping first in your higher gears and then go downhill from there. How many miles does the clutch have? If you still have the original clutch that thing is 13 yrs old and as you mod its just going to be something you have to replace, the stock clutch was designed to stop you from passing too much torque to the wheels. There are a lot of different clutches out there so do some research if you still want the car on the street then don't go overboard or you will have some driveability problems also a great mod at the same time would be to replace your flywheel with a lighter one.
