Decided to do a little porting on the outlet of my big16g turbine side(already been ported by RRE ie. inlet, wg passage, and compressor outlet) in hopes that if I use this side on my evo 16g that it'll allow me to boost my desired 20-22psi on pump cause I'm only getting a max of 15-16 psi by redline in 3rd with a 19-20psi spike on a hallman evolution mbc(current evo 16g has minimal shaftplay side to side but former owner had it boosting @ 22 but now it does me no justice so I think my wg flapper is shot cause I've tried checking boost leaks, new wg actuators, and running the wg actuator without a source still no worky). We'll see what happens. Tell me what you guys think? port matched it to my 3" RnR o2 eliminator. Reminds me of the evo 3 turbine outlet. BTW the car runs great @ 15-16psi but damn I want more BOOST!

Quality is kinda bad but I'm finishing it up right now making it nice and smooth and even.

I run 26psi on race gas in my EVOIII, on pump ill run 18-22 pull car runs really good.

I just hope this cures my damn problem of not being able to boost over 16psi and hold problem(the wg flapper is what I'm changing) so hopefully by tonight it'll be done with.

i had a quick question about your port work. i basically did the same thing to my 14b but i port matched it to a 2.5" o2 housing. the thing is that i went 2.5" all the way to around the blades, so there is a gap now between the blades and the housing for more exhaust to escape. the question for you is did you port it 3" all the way, or just half of it, and is there a gap between the blades and housing if you did go all the way?
thanks for the info

You MUST make sure you keep the same conical angle when porting it out. The defuser angle after the turbine exit is very important to turbine flow. In fact most people wouldn't recommend touching it at all, you're only hurting not helping. Leave it how it is.

I tried my best to keep it the same way it was (conical design) but just ported bigger. I gasket matched it to my 3" but it's not 3" all the way. I did most of the portwork where it angles out. Didn't really take much out cause when I look @ it, it looks more like I just shined it up. Wouldn't that mean if do that to the turbine exit what about the inlet? you're just messing up the original design ;)

BTW I left the portion where the turbine blades are untouched. So it's basically ported from there on. But like I said before I tried to port the way the original design was(kinda like the evo 16g) but just ported out bigger to match my 3" o2 eliminator exhaust

OMG

You might wanna start looking for a new turbine housing. The last thing you want is a gap for the exhaust gas to "escape". The less gas contacting the wheel, the less exhaust energy spinning the wheel. I'd be amazed if you could hold 5psi to redline.

Hey Steve as long as you don't touch the area of original design where the blades are and go on from there with the port and the same conical design it should be fine yeah? Cause in my pictures I put the wheel back inside the turbine side and measured where the wheel stopped and I started to port from that point on mainly focusing on the angle and not the flat portion. Does my housing still look okay? the dark carbon build up portion is the portion where the turbine wheel lays to rest hehe. You can still see it in the pictures

i was worried about that maybe happening. but when i last took out the car for a drive the boost did not start coming until 4,000 rpms, and that was 5psi there. wouldnt this mod actually increase top end flow by letting more exhaust bypass the wheel? but i see what you are saying about bypassing soo much that the wheel hardly even spins, ill see what i can do when it comes time for tuning and such. by the way, the exhaust sounds so much meaner sense i ported around the wheel, it sounds very aggressive...i like it.

I'm no science major or scientist but the gases have a direct pathway and it should be surrounded nonetheless but it would be okay for them to expand after the original path. Kinda like unmolested air that the turbine wheel can't detect and there's just too much for it to compress. Like how they are in the pics. I didn't touch the original area where the wheel fits (well scuffed a bit but basically cleaned off the carbon) but it's still stock port size just the more you go out the more I ported. Can anyone that knows the physics part of this explain this more throughly? haha I want to give it a shot but then again I don't wanna sound like a dumbass not using the right terminology.
