I ported my exhaust manifold, turbo, and o2 sensor housing. The problem is that when i start to go and boost it makes a screaming noise when it starts to spool. After a little bit it will stop but its driving me nuts. I checked all the oil lines to the turbo and there fine. There is no shaftplay, maybe when the turbo was put back together the exhaust housing may have been off a 1/10 of an inch? I dunno what it could be. :(

That should be checked. If it didn't do it before, it shouldn't now.

Bad news is you should take it off and check it over. Nothing like a blown turbo to kill the mood. I am in that boat right now.

I was thinking it may have been cause this is the first time iv used 10w30 moble 1 with a quart of lucas heavy oil stabilizer. I dunno though it sucks if i have to take it off and check everthing again. What could it be though?

Also, i'm the one who put the turbo back together for him.

There were no extra shaving in any of the parts, I know I lined up the turbine/compressor housing up right becase there is the dowl pin that hasto go into the hole. After I put it back together, I check if the compressor wheel would spin freely, Which it did. When we took the car for a ride everything was find and it did not do anything out of the ordinary, Except blow an intercooler hose off, Which has nothing to do with the problem.
There was hardly any shaft play at all. Maybe a very small bit, But I heard every turbo is like that, For oil clearence reasons? Thats what I have read on here.

Have you done any type of boost leak test? If not I suggest that. If you say you blew one pipe off, then chances are others might be at the verge of coming of or maybe even a line has a small cut in it aswell.

I havent heard the sound yet, So.. I'm not exactly sure what it sounds like, If it is more like an air sound, I guess it would be a boost leak, But if it were more of a screaching metal on metal sound, That would hafto be the problem, But how?

Tom, When you see this, Take your intake tube off the turbo outlet and check to make sure the compressor wheel still spins freely, This way you know if it is rubbing or anything, Which it shouldent be.

I agree. The first time I took my turbo off and put it back on, there was an amazing screeching noise coming from under the hood. Since I was a bigger noob back then I was like WTF? After searching and finally a week later doing a boost leak test it turns out that my j-pipe bolts were not tightened all the way. Did that and no more banshee. :thumb:

Just to update..

Today we got the car apart and seperated the compressor/turbine of the turbo and then put it back together and pressed it together as much as it would go. For some reason, The last time we put the turbo together, It was not pressed all the way together, Hence the scraping noise once and while. The turbine wheel would scrape the cup that is behind it I believe. No damage was done to anything thankfully and it is back together now.
After tighetening everything up and fixing the exhaust leaks we took it for a blitz and everything seemed great, Just alittle flutter from the bov which can easily be adjusted(Type-s).
Just wanted to update this thread incase anyone has a problem like this in the future and somehow digs this thread up.

:)

Glad it all worked out.

Most of the time a screeching after a turbo is taken apart and put back together has to deal with a fitament issue when placing it all back together. :)
