I took off the intake elbow and sprayed a little amout of carb cleaner (four 1 second spays as most). Some of it did get into the two slits at the bottom though because I didnt read that about that in the manual. But after reassembly, I waited an hour and started up the car. It started then died the first three times within 2 seconds. The fourth time the engine stayed on for about 15 seconds before it died. Now the engine starts up, revs to about 2k rpms for ~5 seconds then drops down to ~600 rpm where it fights to stay up, while dropping gradually, until its around 200 rpm, at which point I shut it off. If I don't shut it off it eventually dies on its own.

i believe i read somewhere that when your cleaning the throttle body you need to stuff a thin rag down into those little holes otherwise the cleaner will kill the sensors and mechanisms. did you plug the little holes? if not that can be your idle issue and it doesn't necessarily have to throw a code.

again i am not 100 % sure but i hope i pointed you in the right direction hope this helps
good luck

first mistake is using carb cleaner. always use throttle body or intake cleaner on your tb. its something bout the carb cleaner being much harsher of a chemical and im sure thats what project ment by it messes sensors up. i cleaned my tb with intake cleaner and have had no probs. i even cleaned out my tps with it. runs fine. as for the sound i dont know. audio file isnt clear enough. id have to be there, but i can say make sure you check to find out EXACTLY where the sound is coming from. have a friend help you if you need to. boost leak test it for sure. some boost leaks make a whinning sound sort of like what i could hear. hope that helps

Boost/Vacume leak  Did you replace the TB Gasket and all vacume lines leading to the TB?

Dont' see how carb cleaner is any different than other petroleum-based solvants (hell all the ones I've used say Carb/Choke /Throttlebody), regardless, the sensors TPS/WOT are external to the TB so would not be affected by spraying in the inlet. The ISC on the other hand is exposed (thru those air ports), but should not be harmed as is a sealed motor assembly.

To clean the TB in response to poor idle you should always remove the ISC first and then cleane that passageway/valve seat as it's a most common common cause of poor idle next to boost/vacume leaks.

BTW.. please add your vehicle/mods to your profile :dsm:
