i was driving today with cruise control in 5th gear. When i pressed cancel on the cruise control my gsx went into neutral. now it wont go into 5th all the others gears work fine. now as far as i have read it is the bolt that holds in 5th gear, and to access it you need to remove end case. So my question is what the end case is that on the tranny and how would i gp along in tightening the 5th gear nut? help this is my daily and must fix asap!!

Ok so I'm working on the car now but the nut is tight on but seems to be loose I'm confused now! Help anybody?

the nut is tight on but seems to be loose
Well which is it, tight or loose?
If loose, while holding shafts solid (by being shifted in 2 gears at same time - see post 3) torque both 36mm nuts to 109 ft-lbs., then stake (dimple) both 36mm nuts on both sides like this: http://www.dsmtuners.com/attachments/reverse-syncro-new-on-5th-gear-slider-jpg.226616/. You really are supposed to use new nuts so you don't have any previous stakes present. But if you have to, turn the nuts past any previous stakes, torque to 109 ft-lbs and hope the new stake positions don't overlap the old ones. If they do you'll have to get new nuts as they won't hold.
