I hope I get some response on this. I have been debating on getting rid of the motor mount inserts I have. I have the full ones. On all mounts. The vibration is driving me nuts now. Im starting to notice more shit rattling loose. At first I got use to it. Now it sux. Anyway. I was wondering if I switched the upper left and right mount back to stock ones. would it cut down the vibration but keep the improved traction. I hate to loose the traction improvement. I plan to have a larger turbo soon. What about stock mounts plus a quaiffe??? Please give me your inputs. I dont wanna waste money on buying new stock mounts and regret it.

I also have balance shafts removed

This is your biggest problem. I have full mounts in my car and the vibration is noticable but not horrible, I still have my balance shafts. My friend's 1G also has full mounts but no balance shafts, jesus that thing shakes like hell on takeoff. I think you may just have to get used to it.

So your telling me if I go back to stock rubber mounts it is still going to vibrate like crazy because of the balance shafts being removed?

I'm telling you that it's possible. Everything is a trad off. Want better traction and redused engine movement? Better be ready to deal with some more engine vibration in the cabin. Want increased oil pressure and a little more rev happy motor? Be ready to deal with some engine vibration. Inline 4 motors inherently vibrate, the balance shafts are there to combat this, take em out and you get vibration. Now couple that with stiff mounts that transmit that vibration into the body of the car and you will have to deal with it.

I understand the trade offs. But I would think if I went back to stock rubber mounts it would cut down on the vibration alot. The thing sounds like its about to rattle apart.

enough to make it worth it? sorry

Yes it should cut down on the amount of vibration that is transmitted to the body, it will still shake more than a stock car though. Honestly I couldn't even tell a difference with mounts in my car since I already had exhaust. You will lose the benefits of the mounts though, decreased wheelhop and better traction. :thumb:

Thanks alot for your responses. I decided to stick with them. Thanks for keeping me from making a stupid decision.

The vibration can be slightly annoying at times, but my girlfriend doesn't care. So who am I to? ;)

You'll appreciate having them in the long run.

my balance shafts are removed, all mounts, even the side are solid, lighten flywheel, hks cams, 780cc injectors, so forth, so forth. On my last chip upgrade I bumped the idle up to 900 rpm and its fine, the steering wheel shakes a bit, but nothing bad.

take off, driving, everythings great and doesn't feel any different then it was before.

Just some thoughts on this one, no real experience with any of it except for common sense and some things I have done in the past.

When you take off, the “torque” will want to rotate the engine towards the back of the car. This would put any front mounts in compression, and the rear mounts in tension, since the motor wants to spin. The side mounts would see a little of both types of forces. In general, motor mounts in a compression type of load, will last longer than a tension type of load.

Therefore, I was considering, just installing maybe one solid (ie, poly) mount, at the rear, to hold the engine/tranny tight, (if solid, it cannot move). This could also reduce the loads seen on the other mounts. Therefore you could gain some stiffness and keep the rubber ones to reduce the vibration.

Just a thought, good luck! :laser:

Few people here had problems with the prothane mounts. They didnt like the way the car viberated so bad.

One of the guys got the idea to leave the 2 lower engine mounts in but put new stock mounts in for the tranny and the upper engine mount.

Worked good. Stiff enough to keep the engine from moving much due to the lower ones still being prothane but the upper stock mount and upper stock tranny mount helped to reduce the viberation shock.

Might be worth trying. Personally viberation doesnt bother me though.

The front and rear mounts make the biggest difference anyway since that's the way the motor wants to twist. As long as the two side mounts are in good condition they should be fine to leave stock. :thumb:
