Im not on 6 builds but I just had my 7 bolt walk on me honestly try to swap to a 6 bolt with a 2g head since you can do that for the better air flow. Unless im mistaken the reason 7 bolts get crankwalk is due to the bearings so that could have been your cause.

Armin

The 98 and 99 have an upgraded thrust bearing that pretty much eliminates crankwalk.

I would rebuild and pay attention to every little detail. Break in and run a 16g for a while, then bolt on the bigger turbo.
Also there is no reason to spend big $$$ on every rebuild. The stock crank is will meet the needs of 99% of us. Use Alumaglide bearings instead of trimetal. The basic wiseco/eagle combo. Composite HG with STD arp studs.

Like said earlier, sounds like a break in issue since most of these are really low miles.

After assembly prime your oil pump then do your timing belt. Then try this break in procedure Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power with just a small turbo set up (maybe stock or a 16g) with stock injectors so you arent throwing a bunch of factors in the mix that could potentially mess something up. Just for a few tanks of fuel. Then after you make the switch to regular oil, go with your original build plans.

This is what Im going to do this spring with my fresh build.

6 bolts crankwalk too bro. I would have moved on long ago.

With that license plate I'd cry if you threw in the towel  Keep going man, that thing is nasty :dsm: :thumb: I mean isn't this why you're a dsmer. To work on your car, granted this is a little much. But none the less, it's a DSM and something will always go wrong. Keep at it man, it's your beast, now conquer it.

You just gotta sit yourself down and decide, are you a car guy or not? If you sell or part out the car will you be able to walk away and be happy? i know car guys who did just that and have never been happier. Then you have guys like me. My first car? A 69 Camaro, next car was a 70 Mustang Mach 1, then on to a 69 Charger 383. First engine i ever rebuilt. Then I got into my 5.0 Mustang Phase (had 5 of those cars), then got into turbos with 2.2/2.5 Mopar turbos (had 20+ of those cars), then hit an LT1 F Body phase (had 3 of them) and like the proverbial pot head who finally took a hit on a crack pipe and was hooked immediately came my obsession with AWD DSM's. I don't even remember how many I have had. I have "gotten out of dsm's" 3 times now and it just won't take. My last car was a total basket case, bought it off some kid who had no idea what he was doing, everything on that car was screwed up. Finally got it all fixed and running Jackal SD when i sold it. That was almost 2 years ago. I'm on the DSM boards again, and there is a '91 AWD locally here with a bad tranny I can get cheap. I'm 44 years old, my wife keeps asking me when I'm gonna grow up. You just gotta ask yourself what you really want. Maybe taking a break is what you need. Trust me these cars are gonna be around. If I was in your shoes? There was some good advice here, sell some of those expensive parts and build a mild 6 bolt setup that actually fun to drive and won't live in a garage. Mostly stock cars can be a blast too.

Sounds like someone needs a new engine builder and a new tuner. Someone obviously dont know what the #### they're doing. No possible reason for that many failures.

You beat me to it :applause:

If you eliminate two key elements in your engine builds, you would be fine. 1 is the tuner and 2 is the builder. Get an engine that is built by a proven shop and then take it to someone to get professionally tuned. Problem solved.
