Hey guys, I have a 1997 Eclipse GS-T with Infinity System and under seat amp. I am adding new aftermarket 2 ohm midbass speakers to the door and want to ensure correct polarity. I searched and learned from here that the yellow wires of the dash tweeters and the rears are the POSITIVES. However, in the door, both doors actually, one speaker wires looks black, and the other is black with a white stripe!? So is the black negative or the black with white stripe?

The colors must change somewhere along the door wire run as the article states red and blue wires etc for door speakers........both doors have only black and black and white stripe as the colors.

Thanks a ton ahead of time guys!

To keep this as simple as possible.... forget the wire colors. Your best bet is to check by the speakers oscillation. This is a simple way of figuring out whether the polarities are hooked up correctly or not.

1) First you'll need to make a little tool. Attach two wires to a AA battery, one on the positive side, one on the negative.
2) Next attach the connectors on the back of the speakers. It doesn't matter which way, we'll find out the correct way soon enough.
3) If your looking at the wire colors on both ends, i'll assume you already know which ones are which. Stick the positive wire of your new found tool, in the positive slot on the big connector, and the negative wire in the negative slot.
4) Watch the speaker while doing this, if it moves outward(away from the magnet/basket then you attached the wires correctly. If it moves inward, towards the basket/magnet, simply reverse the connectors on the back of the speaker.
5) Try it again and the speaker should move out, if it does your set!

The reason for this, is a properly connected speaker moves out when power is applied to it. The head unit distributes this power in different durations, delays, and frequency's depending on the music your listening to. Simply put, it reads a cd, mp3, etc. interprets it in electric intervals, which travel via wires, to the speaker which reacts accordingly, emitting sounds, which we call music.

Tell us how it goes.
