seriously though.. this is getting stupid...

a built motor will last just as well and as long as a stock motor. it all depends on if you take care of it or not.

when you build the motor, youre thinking that since its a performance built motor that its weaker or something.. its not at all and i dont understand how you could think so. most people who build a performance motor take it to the extremes for speed. if you rebuild your bottom end, run 15psi of boost on it, youll be fine for years to come. now.. if you start running 25psi of boost with nitrous on top and do crazy tuning, then sure you might blow something up.

there are plenty of people on 2gnt that have built motors, running 15psi daily and have no problems and have had no problems for years.

like i said.. it all depends on how well you take care of it. Ive been running for about a month and a half now with no problems on 12psi of boost. I plan on getting it up to 15psi of boost with a 50 shot and im done. Im not going to run race gas with a 100 shot or anything... even if i wanted to, a solid built motor can handle it as long as you tune properly.

seriously man, you need to realize that built motor is just that.. built. if you buy a gst or gsx with 60K+ miles on it... youre going to run into problems with it and i bet you, youll eventually be doing engine work anyway. if you build the 420a bottom end alone, you can run up to 25psi of boost on race gas with the proper tuning.

this subject is getting old.. i think ive said my .02

And the car is a 97, which is newer than the ones you sent me, plus, it came form total eclipse in red bud, which is a gateway DSM member, so i know its a clean car. Id rather spend a little more now and know what im getting, than go get a car that i know nothing about;) woulnt you? and all im doing is offering my opinon in all this, and u freaking attack me? isnt this a DSM board? i mean arent we here to helpo eachother? im disgusted , go buy a lemon? wow good advice...so whos so ignorant here? its sad when you come here to discuss things and see other peoples point of view, and all you get is flack for it. now do you see where im coimng from. So next time just watch waht you say becuase i didnt say anything to offend you, and u cant tell me when im wrong that a rebuilt RACE engine doesnt last as long as a stock engine. im not trying to stir up fights here, i thougth this board is a place you can come to talk about stuff, not get shot down.:| and RSTsoon, u can agree with whomever you want, i wish you luck with turboing your car, i hope you dont come across alotta problems, and i hope you have the hookup for some cheap labor becasue your going to need it. but dont just post a message saying you agree when you arent trying to learn anything here, it sounds like your just trying to start a fight. seriously, no hard feelings guys, lets not loos sight of what message boards are suppost to be about. Helping your fellow DSMer.

Why would I need cheap labor? Im doing everything myself. I've done my homework.:D

Yeah it is getting old and he already made his decision, just curious if you get a commision on him getting a 420a turbo kit. Jeez, your .00002 cents dont mean squat here cause you know nothing about the 4g, so leave this thread alone and troll someone elses posts. Thank you and good day sir. :D

LOL, yeh this is getting old, and i would jsut like to say that for me, these last couple months have been crap, hydrolock, insurane giving me problems, contemplating what to do, ive just been turning to ANYONE that has answers for me! no hard feelings? i hope u ccan understand that i am jsut tryign to get all the knowledge i can from EVERY opinion i can. for example, i went up to the mitsu dealer today and they just gave me"dont build the 420A engine, its not meant for that" on and on. i know this is not true, but i am jut tryign to get all differnt sides of every aspect of these cars, in order to do waht i think is best for MY needs. TRUST ME! if i had 6 grand, to build the RS right now HELL I WOULD, but as i ave said before, im goign off to college soon, and i cant afford to have a "project car" or something i have to spend alootta cash on. now paying monthly as opposed to up front is alot easier, this is the only reason i am going with the GST, and as leagleagle has stated, if somethign goes wrong with the GSt, it wont be as major as something with a rebuilt and turboed RS, all of my "ignorance" and seeming to be "nieve" is just my way of being optomistic, and tryign to look at all sides , to help me make a good choice, with the money i have. believe me, if i had the money and means to be all crazy with my car, i would, but i dont. please forgive me if i pissed anyone off, ive just been i na bind this whole summer because of my car....i just want to be on the streets again:thumb: i hope you see where im coming from InitalDSM, im just tryign to fidn out everyhing i can. peace

LOL james i know man, with a few mods to the gst later on ill be just as fast....hell we live close enough, we shuld set up a race:thumb: haha..i hope you knwo i woulda loved to work with you and stuff, turboing the RS woulda been awesome i know..just not a good time, or not good cash...the GST is the more realistic way for me right now..if i have to drive my parents car again while the eclipse is down for more work, my parents will kill me. if i lived on my own it would be differnt man. so for now, GST for me...but who knows what the futrue holds, this is my second 3rd car in a year....haha
Dave:dsm:

LOL, yeh ill slowly accumulate that 3 grand worth of mods in the future...then im coming for ya James...haha jj

Actually RSTWannabe heres one from the peanut gallery :D. I just ran my stock TSi AWD at Benton last night FULLY LOADED. Guess what. James said he did 9.3 in the 1/8th fully loaded well I pulled a 9.4 in the 1/8th. That was with no more than 2.5in exhaust, a cone filter, and a upper IC pipe for mods. AND I did it with the stock clutch and stock boost(no boost controllerLOL. I guess I owe baker an apology because I am now very very happy with my AWD/4G63 purchase.

BTW James, I believe that beats your best time when you had your stage II hahn with the 16G :p

I figure I'll be in the 8s in the 1/8th with only a couple of minor mods :D

Finally taking advice about a 4G motor and it's longevity from someone who has never owned one is stupid. I would no sooner try and lecture you about a 420a since I have never owned one. I have two 4G63s and like I said reliability even over 100K miles is pretty good.

i was going to go this last tuesday, but ive decided just to wait for nopi race wars instead. it is a 2 hour drive up there. i have to work at 9am every day, so its hard to go racing all night and not get home till 1 or 2 in the morning.

car is running great at 12psi of boost right now, but im trying to get ahold of some larger injectors before nopi.

from dsmtrader (Riverton, Utah)

"i have for sale a 95 gsx for 7500, has 80,000 miles,cd,6-bolt built engine (0 miles),rre upper & lower ic piping,injuen intake,turbonetics mbc,apex-i n-1 downpipe,borla 2 1/2 in. catback,holley fuel pump, ported o2 housing,alot more. new r-1 drag spoiler,new custom paint,new vader front end,all body wok is done,shaves door handles,viper alarm.
the reason i am selling is some of the parts listed above need to be installed, i cannot install them, so that is why it is cheap right now,as soon as the parts are installed car will run great. zach 801-856-6374"

dave: ill be waiting for you hehe

Honestly I hear about more "crankwalk victims" than I have actually seen. 90% of the folks at gateway running 4G63s don't really ever seem to have major problems with them. You have to remember something else. It does not matter if it is a 4G or a 420a if the car has not been taken car of then it will break. Before we got Debs car it had 7 owners. The car was never taken care of and had the piss ran out of it. There were some minor things that had to be fixed like the valve guides, but the dealer we bought it from paid for that. My car on the other hand was well taken care of. Both cars now are very well taken care of and neither miss an oil change. Most the folks I know in gateway that have any problems with thier cars are usually problems bled over from previous owners. Like I said before it all really depends on how you take care of the car. When you start adding HP problems can happen.

Honestly I have never really heard of any other 420a's having some of the bad luck you have James, but that does not mean that it does not happen either. I rarely hear of 420a turbo DSMs having major problems but then again I have only heard of one 12s or better 420a. I do think Kirby has a good shot at it and I hope he gets it.

BTW James I though you posted up a while back that you thought Nitrous was cheating?

man that 95 GSX looks tight, but itd be more realistic if it were closer. Utah is quite a drive! LOL...trust me id be all over it, but there is NO way in hell my parents are going to let me go all the ay to UTah for a car. just sucks having parents that arent gearheads like me:p LOL

if you build the 420a bottom end alone, you can run up to 25psi of boost on race gas with the proper tuning.

The stock 4G63 has been known to handle 25psi with race gas and proper tuning. Of course that is not with the T25, but rather a turbo that can handle it. Gabor, from gateway DSM ran his car into the bottom 12s with race gas and 29psi on a stock longblock. A built 4G63 can take an excess of 30+ psi with proper tuning, although I would recommend that most folks not try this and leave that to the pros.

yeah before i thought nos was cheating, but that deals with more of a stock motor with no performance mods.. etc..

i feel now that if someone has tons of mods, then the last thing they do is nos for just a little kick is ok.

nos is ok, but people who only have nos, i feel are cheating.. doesn't make sense but oh well.

I'll just say this much. MOST 4G63s do not need Nitrous to make it to the 12s and the ones that do are running small turbos like small16Gs. Also I think Kirby will hit 12s without Nitrous on his 420a. All I have to say is people are going to expect you to run better than high 12s with nitrous and the money you have in that motor.

I myself hope to hit mid 12s will just the turbo and no nitrous.
Knock Wood, it should not be an issue.

hey mike.. why don't you try and get off my shit for a minute. im so sick of your condescending bullshit.

i think you need to remember that he isn't going to be building a 12 sec car from a 4g63.. he just wnats a faster reliable car. your statement about time with the 4g63 doesn't matter.. and its a mute point.

furthermore, there are tons of other 420a's out there which are very fast. There is only a handful of fast 420a drivers on here. go over to 2gnt.com and see how many people can smoke your ass ;)

1. I'm not condescending, I'm just pointing out that there is a lot more tuning on you car that can be done before you need to add Nitrous. You can't just slap 50-100 shot on your car with the setup you have and expect it to be "plug and play"

2. I was pointing out the fact that the 4G63 can be a fast reliable car without touching the long block. Nothing more. Like Kirby said, the 420a has a lot of potential but you still need to build the short block before you can see 12s with one.

3. As for these "very fast" 420a's I have yet to see any sub 12s 420a DSMs besides bill hahn post up a timeslip. 13s are quick and I'm not debating that, but I am chosing my side when it comes to the 4G vs 420a debate.

OK and James for every fast 420a DSM that you show me that can "hand me my ass" I'll show you 20 4G63s that can hand them thiers.
